One of the oldest cemeteries in the country, this is a must-see for those interested in history and/or the Salem witch trials. Several very old headstones, beautiful old trees and very easy to get to.
A very wonderful historical old cemetery where you may recognize names such as Hawthorne, Putnam and Nourse/Nurse. Leave a penny to let the spirits know you visited them. :-) If you are going to go and want to experience how beautiful this location is - go in early to mid October. The foliage hanging from the trees reaching over the stones is really nice.
It was such a moving experience to walk around and see the beauty and history of this cemetery. We actually learned a lot of interesting information and it was within walking distance of our hotel.
Salem overall is such a magical place. This cemetery transports you back in time. It's easy to get to and we didn't spend much time here but glad we visited this place. Salem is a great place to spend a whole day with friends and family. See you soon Salem :)
Very interesting to walk through and read the dates and headstones. The history surrounding this cemetary is amazing.
A very spooky yet intriguing place. It was lovely to just take our time and walk around reading the headstones. Hard to believe it actually happened. Worth the visit. 100%
It was really cool getting to visit this cemetery for the historic value alone. The tombstones are original from the 1600's. If you are interested in the history of the witch trials, you will find that some of the people involved are buried right there. It is easy to access and not very big at all, so it is easy to walk around and explore all the old headstones. Over in the Was museum and gift shop they have a place you can do a tombstone rubbing, (they provide the paper) so you don't do it on the ones that are in the cemetery, possibly damaging them.
Visited while on a witch walk tour, Tom the tour guide is great. Really opened my eyes and mind to what I never even thought about before. Put me on my path to my true spiritual beliefs.
It's peaceful walking around and get a sense of history. Also a great place to see ghosts too. The salem witch trial judges is buried there.
A must for all history buffs and those that like creepy places. It very sad to see the headstones in disrepair but to be expected.
