Bring your little ones. The horses are all hand carved by local people that learned from a master. They are beautiful, and each one is different. Your children will pick out their favorite. Mine was always Jazz, the zebra. After, go play in the park, or walk along the river, or head to the Gilbert House Museum. It makes for a nice family friendly day.
Beautiful carousel, but not much else to do. Little gift shop and a playground in the park next to it. Great to see at least once and get cute pics
I loved the indoor carousel a lot more than I expected to. Inside the gift shop, you can see into the room where they plan new animals (not all horses) for the carousel- and see them in varying stages of carving, drawing, and painting. They have a new one coming up named Blackberry, which is a fawn (my name is Fawn, so I especially am pleased with it!) I was a little concerned riding the carousel, as I am a larger lady, but it was well made and I had fun. I'm glad I went!
One of the things I love so much about Salem is that it is a great place for families and having the Riverfront Carousel to take your kids and grandkids is a joy. We take are grandkids often and they love it. After riding the horses we take a walk around the park and end up with the kids playing at the playground. Fresh air, clean and safe, it doesn't get any better than that.
This was our first time at the carousel. The event was well planned & there were not too many people. The staff was wonderful there was not a bad mood to be found in fact the customer service person in the gift shop was singing Christmas songs while she was stocking shelves.I was the only one in there because everyone else was visiting w/Santa so she wasn't doing it for my benefit. The horse carousel was amazing to my grandchildren. The tickets were $20 each & we were given a free picture w/Santa, a book ($10) & a coloring book ($6). I was amazed at that! That book was wonderful it was about all the horses on the carousel.Santa: Genuine not covered with tattoos! We definitely will be back!
The carousel is a beautiful work of art. The horses (and now some other animals) are beautifully hand carved and painted and it takes a very long time for them to be completed. Each one has it's own personality and they are extraordinary! The cost to ride is very reasonable and the carousel songs are great. This is a place for young and old and all can ride. They have party rooms and a gift shop. This place brings you back to your childhood.
For those not old enough to remember, this area in Salem used to be over grown weeds in a vacant lot. The park is an excellent use of city land. And the carousel is a great testament to our past parks. Enjoy it Salem!
This is one of the most beautiful carousels I have ever seen. Many children come again and again with the goal of riding each animal. It is situated in the lovely Riverfront Park, which has nice paved trails, playground equipment, and a splash pad for kids in summer.
A delightful real carousel inside a clean, safe building, so in any weather. Free parking easily available. Ride costs $1.50. Daily, hours available by phone or on line www.salemcarousel.wix.com.
The carousel is indoors and really pretty. It's next to a park and and has a pretty view of the river. You can also go for a walk or play simple frisbee. The parking can be pretty difficult depending on the temperature and day.
