We went on Monday Oct. 13th day was overcast and raining off and on. Will try to make the lighthouse on another day. One good thing with the weather there were few people at the lighthouse. We were able to walk out to the end of the pier and saw both lighthouses up close. They are in definite need of repair. The larger of the two is rusting and the smaller of the two has part of it's upper rail broken off. I've seen photos of these lighthouses in the winter with the smaller of the two encased in ice no wonder the damage. While in town we noticed flyers for a fundraising effort to repair the lighthouses, wishing them good luck in their effort these are gems worth saving.
This is a beautiful photo op for anyone visiting the city. You can walk the pier on a good day for a great experience.
I grew up here so I am biased, but this is my favorite place. I can't think of a place I would rather walk out into Lake Michigan. The view is really beautiful of the Lake, the coast, and of the lighthouse.
Enjoyed walking out on the pier. In years bygone, we each spent time at the lighthouse, are beaches and enjoyed the trip.
Visited the lighthouse as it was covered in ice. SPECTACULAR. The ice had a wind blown effect that was stunning. The small, quaint town of St. Joseph is a must.
If it's a nice sunny day, nothing beats a stroll on the pier for a great views of the lighthouse and boats passing by. But if it's windy or the waves are high, be careful, the pier can be downright dangerous. None the less, this beautiful lighthouse was selected to be on a US Postage Stamp many years ago and is certainly the icon of this charming town.
really enjoyed the walk and you can watch the fishermen too!nice cool breeze boat and people fun to watch.great place to take wedding and family pictures for a wonderful back ground.
I enjoyed an early morning walk out to the lighthouse. I saw and spoke to several people who were serious fisherman. They were spending the day on the pier.
Love lighthouses, this one is a standard Michigan Lighthouse and a nice stop along the shore after shopping downtown so you can walk off the wine, cupcakes and candy!
The beach, the pier, the water, the lighthouse... all of it is wonderful! I love it in the spring and summer when the sky is blue and the water is lovely with the sun reflecting on it.You can bring a chair if you'd like, and sit on the pier and read a book while you listen to the water gently lapping the side of the pier.Just close your eyes and feel the peace, the serenity, the calm.It is a wonderful experience.
