Huntes Gardens, visited 27th February. Parking difficult if you come with a hire car but can use waste ground next door. Excellent gardens, 5 star, Anthony Hunte invited us into the veranda of his house for a drink and then we walked down into the gardens, magical, blooms everywhere not a single inch of soil wasted. We have visited many gardens around the world but this is the best.
Recommended to us by a fellow guest at the hotel and what a treat. Beautiful gardens very peaceful and quiet. Anthony is a very genial host and his rum is to be recommended. Glad I bought two bottles to bring home. Should have bought more!! He is passionate about his garden and has obviously spent a long time developing it to the magnificent creation it is today. Go and see it you will not be disappointed. There are steep steps however so be careful.
I have an appreciation for nature but I wouldn't call myself a gardener, this place was just a brilliant experience. A spectacular view can be found around each corner and the sound of classical piano music adds to the experience. The plants are gorgeous and other bits and bobs are to be found all around the gardens making you ask was that placed there or is has it just been left by accident.
This garden is just perfect. It has lots of plants and trees with narrow walks between the vegetation. The plants and trees are growing everywhere and the walks do not intrude too much. There is a lot of colours and we were told by the keeper the flowering and colours are there throughout the year. The place is not overly huge but there are quite a few steps. However, there are many, many places with seats to take breaks. The place is very peaceful and like the other people's comments, the music is something else. All throughout one can hear soft light classical music in the background which gives the place a zen feeling. Adding to the zen experience, there are quite a few statues throughout and quite a few of Buddha's. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We even had the lemonade at the end of the walk.
Antony Hunte greeted us with work gloves in hand. We walked around his beautifully detailed tropical garden Many secluded spots to sit and enjoy the bountiful flora around us. He invited us into his 150 yr old house where his dog greeted us. We had a sample of his 10 yr aged reserve rum and each bought a bottle on the spot. A must see in Barbados.
Sue & I visit many gardens. In fact, one of my Pinterest pages is Gardens We Visited. Hunte's is in the top 3 experiences.$30 USA for two. Worth every penny. Classical music playing. Lovely, private settings with comfortable furniture scattered throughout the grounds.Stunning variety of plants, trees. Zero plant identification. Anthony Hunte personally served carrot cake, water and his own private brand rum. Humorous, humble & gracious despite his planned departure for his Uncle's 90th birthday party. Caution: Many steps. Be careful. Estimated 60' meandering vertical.Allow 2 hours. More if you are not fit.
A quiet and beautiful tropical garden. Well worth a visit for the garden lover. There are many steps to negotiate.
We found this garden owned and designed by Anthony Hunte, last year when we visited Barbados and we returned again this year and took our niece and nephew with us. They, like us were enamoured with this garden. Anthony has worked so hard to produce a tranquil oasis, where you can relax and be relieved of all stress and worries as you admire the plants and listen to the music. Anthony has made some changes and improvements since our last visit and the mirror and seating area is divine. You said you were trying to think of some new ideas Anthony and I thought that a long waterfall would be good and the mirror could be turned to portrait and used as a door leading into a secret garden behind; like Alice. What do you think?
We were on a cruise with Fred Olsen aboard Braemar it was our last day, our flight not due out till 17:20 local time, so we booked the farewell to Barbados trip, if you are on a cruise ship and have the opportunity to book this then just do it.The coaches on Barbados now are great new clean and fantastic drivers who tell you all about the places you past on your journey to Hunte's garden. This piece is just about the garden which is the most wonderful natural tropical garden you can imagine. The owner Mr Hunte greets the coach at the entrance and escorts you to the centre of this 2.5 acre paradise. Rum punch is then served by Mr Anthony Hunte and one of his helpers. After everyone has been served Mr Hunte locates himself to a high point in the garden where he explains its history and asks for questions. You then have the opportunity to wander all the narrow paths and sit amongst these wonderful tropical plants listening to the birds. The visit to this tropical paradise ended a perfect cruise in the Caribbean
