Visite courte et très bien expliquée. Personnel accueillant et passionné. Visite originale et accessible à tous. Je recommande
Nature is just amazing. We did a self-guided tour with the Tourist Book (in English) - Video in French (luckily the book gives you the low-down in writing). Quite a quick tour (good if you're with children) however you can take your time - touch the water, the walls, stalatights and mites. Show rooms displaying the methodology and process of the moulding and casting of subjects and then the "petrifiying" of the subject under a cascade of calcium filled water.Historically speaking - it's really astonishingScientifically speaking is far beyond my school science lessons but explained well using diagrams and images. The real life visit of the cave also impresses.THE SHOP - if you're a film star, you'll find a bargain, however if you're like me - the shiny ornaments or a nice vase with the petrifiying calcuim finish are gorgeous (between 5 and 25 euros).PRICE - 6euros for an adult and a well worth educational trip ;)
Interesting concept. The tour starts in a cave with small stalactites etcthen to a chamber where the calcified water is fed over objects and plaques to form "stone" trinkets.
I heard of the art of petrification before coming here, but I was amazed by the simplicity of the concept and of course the quality of the artwork. The result is somewhere between fine china and marble. I recommend this tour into the heart of the spring and the artisan workshops. Wish more items were affordable.
