After reading the reviews we decided to take a drive up to the Double Peak Park. We were not disappointed. The views are spectacular. Very easy walk from the parking lot to the top.
If you are going over the mountain on Twin Oaks Road in San Marcos, turn off at the Double Peak sign. A lovely little park with telescopes is on top with ocean and mountain views. The huge fire in May, 2014 burned to the edges of the park. Worth a trip. Buy a sandwich at Ralphs or Albersons in San Elijo and drive up for lunch.
With miles of trails leading to the top such a great reward to see 360° view with telescope! You can also drive to the top!
Liked this pace so much, i went TWICE!Beautiful views, all the way to Tijuana, the Ocean, Mountains,The whole valley. parking good. tables and benches available. walking trails there. short drive form San MArcos, but well worth a stop if u r passing the Oceanside/Escondido area!some of the best views i have seen in all of San Diego!
I drove up here with my boyfriend, we got to the top right as the sun wears starting to set. We could see all the way out to the water, to Tijuana and much more. It was absolutely gorgeous and very romantic! Definitely recommend it if you're in the area!
It was a great way to see the ocean and mountains. The sunset was exquisite from up top. The trails were closed due to needing repair after the fires in San Marcos.
I like to visit Double Peak all the time and it is always so relaxing and a great place to get outside and enjoy what San Marcos has to offer! Definitely recommended!
Mostly these place is popular as a sunset looking point. But we went there in the midday and spent nice couple of hours looking around from the top, gathering the flowers, and my daughters enjoyed the playground.
If you want to really get a view of San Marcos and the surrounding area, this is the place to get it. You truly can see for miles. From the park you can see all the way over to the ocean and this is one of the best places to catch a beautiful sunset.
This little gem always seems to have people coming and going. Some hiking, others driving up. All enjoying the beautiful view from the top of the hill. On a clear day you can see to Mexico! A nice map shows the landmarks visible, and a donated telescope aids in viewing the area as well. If you can't make the short walk up from the parking lot, you can still see quite a bit.
