We love small town local history museums. This museum was well laid out and human depictions were very life like and well illustrated. There was a lot of reading and they offered for no charge a hand held wand with recordings at the different stations, so you could just listen if you wanted. I would recommend this museum highly. They have a small gift shop with reasonable prices.
This is a small musem, but setup very interesting. Loved the displays and the artifacts. This is a self-guided tour with an audio wand.
A very fine modern museum experience in the Soo. The central theme of the museum is Baawitigong ("place of the rapids") or the rapids of the St. Mary's River. Content thoughtfully explores Ojibwe, French, British and American history of the region. Multi-dimensional exhibits are well done, authoritative, with several hands-on experiences. A definite must-see if traveling through Sault Ste. Marie.
Interesting and the exhibits of the history are really something to see. There is a lot to see in a small area, but don't let the small size fool you. Take some time to check out everything and you will definitely come away with a new appreciation of the area.
This is a great museum on local history from the Glacial period to the present day use of the St. Mary's River system. The audio wands are terrific and only took us about 20 mins to walk thru and listen to all the descriptions. Then we spent another half our or more just looking and reading the different items inside.
We got the wands with the narration where you stop at each number and listen to the stories. After about 8 we just started looking at the displays and tried to take it all in. We were pressed for time or we could have spent several hours here. My two 14 year old daughters and I really enjoyed it.
My son, who goes to LSSU, walks by this museum all the time, so we decided to go last time we visited him. It is well worth a visit! A lot of local history, native history, and LSSU history in this museum. The head sets really help the exhibits come alive, and there are interactive things for kids. I really enjoyed the stories of the native people. After the museum, we went to look at some of the historic houses in town that belonged to people we had just learned about! Kids and adults alike will enjoy the Fish Cam. Overall, a great way to spend of few hours.
Small but loaded museum with tons of info about the area and pivotal people who have helped shape it. Get the audio “wand” tour which helps fill in a lot of the details. The audio programs seem too long at first, but once you realize how small the museum is they start to fit in much better.
A beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding areas, historical presentation very informative, the admission fee could be a little lesser....
Neat little museum that showcases the river and surrounding area with attractions for kids and adults. Entry fee was reasonable when purchased as a combo-ticket with the ship and tower. If you're in the area it's a must see.
