Très grand et bel édifice avec des chapelles permettant le recueillement pour ceux qui le souhaitent
I guess it was a model for the Notre Dame, so I was impressed. It looks like a smaller version of the big cathedral.
Very nice Cathedral in Sens. Then go for a stroll in the neighborhood
point de vue extraordinaire avec la lumière de l'hiver nous y retournerons avec plaisir pour l'admirer
This is one of the oldest cathedrals in France. It might not be famous, it might not even be all THAT brilliant when you compare it with the likes of Chartres, but it is definitely worth a visit when you are in or near Sens.
As one of the great 12th century buildings in France, one might expect much more of a crowd. One my Wednesday visit, I was able to spend a hour or two almost in solitude. Much of the glass is gone but the architecture is in excellent state. Not to be missed are the statue from the house of St. Thomas a Beckettand the treasury (up stairs, right choir aisle), one of the greatest(though poorly lit, bring a mini flashlight) in France. Attached is the grandest gallo roman collection in France, a small museum, and lovely episcopal gardens. Good shops on the north of theCathedral.
Sens was an unexpected pleasure. We stopped for several hours on the way from the Chablis area to Paris. Beautiful cathedral with stunning stain glass windows. Easy to navigate the small city and parking was free a few blocks from the cathedral. We ate a nice lunch at a cafe behind les halles which were closed the day we visited. The city felt like a real town whose reason for being went beyond catering to tourists drawn to the cathedral. Anyone who took a medieval architecture class in college is familiar with Sens. Definitely worth a visit.
La première cathédrale gothique de France à voir pour ses vitraux, son histoire, son orgue et le musée...
Vous pouvez visiter la cathédrale le matin et déjeuner à 12 heures. Faites part au patron de votre objectif !
The Cathedral is yet another testament of great Gothic Architecture and one of the first of it´s kind in France.I recommend the visit to the Cathedral and the Sens Museum along side.
