Nice old town fortifications give wonderful views of the castle, towers, village, and Rhein River. Walk the length to see the whole village.
You can walk on the city wall and actually climb to some of the towers. From the towers you can get good photos of trains, which are going by the Rhein...
We enjoyed the walk our first afternoon. We climbed the tower, had nice views of the Rhine, and saw inside the attached church.
Oberwesel has one of the best-preserved city walls in Germany. (If you are British, think Chester.) Don't miss taking this excellent and interesting walk.
Very well preserved city fortification walls along the most scenic portion of the Rhine. We didn't do a tour, just climbed up and enjoyed during the late afternoon.
You can access the city fortifications with one of the several stone steps along the walls. Once up, you can walk the length between the 7 or 8 tours covering almost the length of the current town. Delightful views of both Oberwesel and the Rhine River valley
Disliked nothing; Oberwesel is a beatiful village on the Rhine River. Peaceful and quiet yet very accessible from Frankfurt and Koblenz. Be sure to take a day cruise on the Rhine. K-D is the primary provider and offers multiple options alllowing one to get off in all of the villages and return to you point of origin later in the day. The castles and scenery on the voyage is outstanding.
Walking on top of the city walls brings you back to the early days, where fortification walls were a necessity for survival against the enemy. Nice and beautiful views over the - city of Oberwesel - and the river Rhine - called the Lorreley at that section. Highly recommended.
Whilst having a quiet evening walk, looking for somewhere to eat, we found this wall and walked along it.What secrets does it hold and the troubles it has stood through?
As a history lover, seeing walls, gates, towers all dating back to the Middle Ages was a wonderful experience. The whole walk took about 2 hours, but that was taking our time and not rushing at all. Do it, great way to spend an afternoon.
