It took about an hour to go through. Very nice site to see exotic plants and animals. Definitely get a Groupon or buy one, get one coupon.
My wife a two for one coupon in the Tampa Bay & Gulf Beaches guide map and saved $6.00. It appears the Gardens is getting ready for the busy season and have not yet identified most of the areas shown by number only on the handout map. We enjoyed the tropical birds, especially the ones that talked. Overall it was a nice respite, not with standing the lack of information normally provided to guests.
We had been to the Gardens about 20 years ago and it was not much different that it had been. It provides a pleasant walk through a shaded garden of palms and epiphytes. There was not much color present but rather plenty of luxuriant growth with many variegated plants. You can wander the paths and see the gardens in 30 to 45 minutes. There is a map but like a jungle it is difficult to know where you are since there are no markers for where you are or signs. There are some caged birds in the park many of whom have a song which was supposed to induce them to sing.
The Sunken Gardens is a pleasant diversion in the middle of St. Pete. A wedding was held the day we were there and the Gardens make a serene, peaceful backdrop. Plenty of flowers and plants and small creatures. A nice stroll.
Who would have expected such a delightful gem of a garden right off a busy road? I sure didn't. What a surprise. You'll see some wonderful palms. A good assortment of bougainvillea. And quietness, it is unbelievably quiet inside of this wonderful little garden.
What did beautiful garden and display in the middle ofst. Petersburg Florida. There is a huge variety of plants and flowers bloom at different times it's a real treat for a few hours any day.
Didn't know what to think when I first arrived since it is on a busy street and looks like a store front. It was very pleasant walking through the gardens. We also enjoyed the parrots and flamingos. We were a little apprehensive when we first arrived because the lobby was packed with school children but they were going to the children's discovery area. You can buy combination tickets if you are traveling with children.
We toured the gardens on a recent visit to St. Petersburg and it was one of the most enjoyable stops we made. Even though the temperature was only in the 50's, it was still comfortable in the gardens. It is a great photo opportunity with different flowers blooming, flamingos, waterfalls, ponds and some majestic trees.
We visited Sunken Gardens this week and it was a very relaxing time and a great chance to see old Florida right in the middle of St Petersburg. The Gardens are easy to reach, has good parking and is very updated and the staff is really friendly and very happy to give tours and answer questions about the park. For a day of walking through beautiful scenery, and learning about old Florida, this is a great place. Young kids to older adults all enjoyed visiting the day we were there.
What a wonderful place to visit while in the Tampa & St Pete area. Clean well kept and interesting garden area. We only spent about an hour there, but we can not wait to return often. Easy to get to, only a few miles of the main highway, right on a main road, with lots of restaurants, etc in the area. Some of the older, former interesting places in Florida have fallen into disrepair, but not the Sunken Gardens, St. Petersburg had done a wonderful job continuing what Mr Turner and the Turner family started in 1903. Not to be missed,a great pace to wander and enjoy at your leisure, we will be returning soon.
