It is a very beautiful place and the staircase is amazing. My only complaint is that they charge you to get in and they have a gift shop attached that is really expensive. I'm not about making money so people can come look inside a church.
Cost is $3 a person but the miracle staircase (which you cannot assend btw) and the interior is worth the fee to see this historical chapel.
This is a pretty amazing site to visit if you are ever in Santa Fe. It amazes me that someone could come in an construct a useable staircase without nails! It's crazy! And beautiful!
Definitely worth a quick look inside. It is beautiful and the magic staircase is really cool. It only costs $3 a piece and there is an audio that constantly plays and gives you good information on the chapel. Only takes 15 to 20 minutes to see the chapel.
I really liked the feel of this little chapel....it was old and had beautiful decorations. The story of the stairs was neat and they were quite well preserved. It didn't take long for the tour but it was cheap enough and I enjoyed a quiet sit in there. I was inspired to sit and say a prayer. There were a lot of ladies coming in to light candles..... enjoyed the experience.
We have been here once before and it was not open so it was great to be there today and go inside to see the staircase! Go if your here and don't miss it!
This lovely chapel is treated like a secular museum. There is no sense of quiet or place for meditation or prayer. Services are provided by a non-Catholic group calling themselves "The Church of Antioch". Chapel is closed for weddings, so call ahead. You must pay for parking, as well as admission. The staircase is magnificent, but you cannot climb or even touch it. The huge gift shop contains both Catholic and secular items.
We were told to visit this place because of the mystery staircase what we didn't know was there is a charge to get in. 3.00 per person which can become pricey for a family. It's very small and apparently not owned by the Catholic Church any more. It's rented out for weddings and other events. It's very pretty inside and the staircase is a must see. It's a 5 to 10 minute self tour by the time you take pics. It's a one time must see which is why I gave it 4 stars. We won't go again on our next visit. It's in historic downtown, parking is a issue. We drove around till finally we found one several blocks away. There is lots to see and shop in the historic area so walking wasn't a problem.
The Loretta Chapel is a beautiful piece of art in itself. But the staircase is a miracle that has to been seen in person to be appreciated. A true carpentry masterpiece.
The main attraction here is the staircase and the story behind it. Lovely and amazing. Other than the staircase, it is just a beautiful old church. Well maintained with a fair-sized gift shop attached. The fee was nominal.
