This is a municipal style course and it plays well. For the price, it's very nice ($25 on EZlinks.com). It helps to play with someone who has been there before because there are several holes that are pretty blind off the tee. We found the greens true and the fairways in good condition.
This is a very nice course that will make you feel like a big hitter. Even though the yardage is short, the holes are tricky enough to make it a challenge. Most of the par 5's are reachable in 2, and if you've never had an eagle in your life, play the whites as you'll get two chances on 17 and 18.
27 holes of the best golf I have experienced. You can golf almost every day you are here. This is a City owned public course and is very cheap to play. I will do it again.
Not quite in the condition of Sunbrook and some really surly, grumpy people working there, especially the ranger and the range attendant. But don't that deter you. Very interesting back nine will make you want to come back for more.
White Buffalo (my brother), plays a vicious hook, and the contortions that his body makes in delivering the golf club to the ball must have worried the clubhouse staff concerning his safety and/or the safety of the other golfer on the course, because after the first hole they sent out a marshal to supervise us for the remaining holes. This marshal was a peach of a fellow who pointed out, or alerted White Buffalo to all the various hazards, fragile objects, animals or other humans that might become victim to his brutal style of golf. He also told us the history of the golf course and how the front nine had just recently been completely redesigned after a series of floods. The new front nine was very entertaining even for White Buffalo, but he found the back nine a little too narrow for his “game”. The two side of this course are very different, with the front nine being open and water coming into play on many holes, while the back nine feels and plays more like a typical desert course and is lined by houses. This is a nicely maintained municipal golf course with excellent facilities and friendly clubhouse staff. Over all, White Buffalo gives this 4 ½ feathers out of five.
We visited St. George and were staying at a timeshare that was right off the 1st fairway. We walked to the clubhouse, got a cart and we were off. The front 9 is flat, built around the Virgin River and a few little lakes and requires relatively accurate shots. The back 9 is in the hills between houses and has great views. I played with a low skilled partner and so we teed off from the white tees. What a great time I had. A few of the par 4s are short enough to reach, or at least come close and number 8 entices with a tee shot over a lake to the green. If you're capable, I'd say go for it.On the back 9 there is a 374 yard par 5 (from the whites), a great opportunity for a shot at an eagle, although a twinge of guilt would accompany it.The staff was very friendly, the price was right and the location, for me, was perfect.
where can two people play for $18 with a cart on a nice course with views and in great shape...we joined two locals after a few holes and they could not have been nicer, pointing out targets to aim for.....st george is booming and we can understand why.
With all the improvements with this course, it has made it a nice place to play, the course is in good condition, the staff and the pro are very nice, I really liked it last time I played there.
I hadn't played Southgate since they made the changes brought on by the Dixie interchange, and was pleasantly surprised by both the excellent conditions and the course changes. White tee's play a little short, so try the blues or go crazy and play the back tees. You will have a great time on this fun course. There is a lot of competition in St George for championship courses. Although this is a step down from Coral Canyon, Ledges, Sun Brook, Sand Hollow and the two private courses, Entrada and Bloomington, it should be recognized for what it is. A Fun and challenging course in great condition. Interesting layout with water on at least half the holes. Fairways, tees and greens were lush and in great shape. Staff is friendly and helpful, a great choice for the St George golfer. A great value as well.
Challenging course with lots of houses with windows to potentially hit! A few too many par 3 holes but I would most definitely play here again. Staff was friendly. Not too good of a snack bar.
