I have always preferred this beach to any other. It is clean and has a great view. I love to come in the morning and I always pack a lunch. The concession stand is a bit expensive. The waves are rather big! The parking fee is $15On Friday and Saturday nights there is live music on the boardwalk. The Flight 800 Memorial is also on the grounds.
Smith's Point campground is a beautiful place to stay. It's 90% of the hither hills experience with exception that it is generally easier to get a reservation at this campground because it is a county campground. It differs from Hither Hills in that the campsites are more sandy than grassy and the camping is above the dunes rather than behind them. In some aspects it is better than Hither Hills because many sites have full electric, water, and sewer hookup. We found the beach to be clean and relatively un-crowded. The campground was clean and well maintained. We had no issues. We will definitely make a yearly trip to this campground.
We go to this beach every time we visit family. This is a great little beach in an unbelievable location. Just minutes off the highway, you basking in the sun with a cool one in you hand from the Beach Hut. The live entertainment all afternoon and evening can't be beat. If you can't afford a ticket to paradise, just stop on down here for the day!
sand, waves, great sunsets, fishing pair, clean bathrooms, music, what more can you ask for............................
We got to visit this beach at the end of the season this time, but in general Smith Point beach has been less crowded than public beaches at Robert Moses State or the Hamptons. Just as clean and beautiful as the other beaches listed, if you love the almost rock-free sugar-sand of the Caribbeans but with a bit colder water.
Its great during the summer but like any other beach on Long Island its very busy. I would suggest going in the later months, Fall season. Its a nice walk on the beach.
Smiths Point is a beautiful BEACH and CAMPGROUND, Beach Hut has great music and food and is reasonable priced... with that being said, the BATHROOMS are DISGUSTING in both areas!!! They are not cleaned regularly, if at all!! Have cob webs, and wet paper stuck all over walls and ceiling corners...tolites and sinks are dirty..... human hair all over the walls in the showers, shower curtains have mold, candy wrappers and such left behind by the sink the whole week I was there,,,,Bathrooms need to be throughly cleaned and could also be updated!
Great beach and boardwalk with facilities for summer fun for all ages. Great night spot for everyone to enjoy with live music and good food at reasonable prices. Free parking for seniors during the week and $5 per car with the pass.
Smiths Point is as good as it gets. Whether you walk or drive onto the beach, you will find some of the best sand on the island. Sandy has left the beach in bad shape for this upcomming sun season - hopefully they will rebuild in time.
With the 4 wheel drive permit you can surf cast here for striped bass and blues. 8 mile drive down the beach to Moriches inlet. Good fishing.
