So much to see even during the evening when stores are closed. The residential blocks are beautiful with magnificently maintained home and yards. We visited on a Friday evening before many homes were part of their annual garden tour. So they were pristine and welcoming. Loved the area and it's easy to imagine and fantasize about living in such a great area of an historic city like Buffalo.
Popular area for grabbing a bite and some drinks in the evening when we are in town. Very close to downtown hotels.
Great food, drinking, art, music, and culture... Or, in other words, this is the city's gayborhood :p. check out Gabriel's gate for the best wings in town, funky monkey and other nearby bars for fun but relaxed lgbt nightlife, the Theodore Roosevelt inaugural site for your dose of history, and Nietzsche's for live music every night. A few shops can be found in the neighborhood as well. Be sure to check out the awesome street art found on he buildings on Allen st and the beautiful homes on park and Irving
I used to live in this area of town, and while there might not be as many little stores to pop into like there are on Elmwood (although more and more are moving in), I prefer Allentown to walk around and look at the Architecture. My favorite buildings in the city are in this district, and it feels more unique to me than Elmwood. Elmwood you see lots of Victorians, which are beautiful, but Allentown has a nice mix. There are also some good places to stop in for a coffee/beer (Founding Fathers is still my favorite bar in the world), and lots of character!
We stay at the Holiday Inn at Delaware and North once a year to visit downtown Buffalo and always stroll in Allentown. A great mixture of retail, pubs, restaurants and street life. Pride in the neighbourhood is obvious - street art, flower pots, store front attractions. An eclectic area.
I love Allentown and I wish I lived closer by and could go more often.it has a great vibrant atmosphere great shops good food,Williamsville could take an example but does not do it.
I loved staying in Allentown while visiting my boyfriend. It was walking distance from everything. Nice houses and convenient.
It's always interesting to walk around in Allentown. Interesting shops, interesting people, and interesting restaurants. Of course one should stop in at Gabriel's Gate for a bite or drink. We also enjoy the art festival held in Allentown every June.
Nightlife at its finest! I am NOT into the club scene in the slightest so I was delighted to find Allen street. Bars packed with live music, great drink specials and all the 'hip' kids in the Buffalo area. It goes all night too if you'd like.. bars in Buffalo are open till 4am! There is also an amazing food joint on the corner of Elmwood and Allen for those late night cravings.(it's open until 5am!) Go in the daytime too check out Rust belt books and some of the nicer restaurants in the area!
Took a stroll around on a June weekday but were disappointed that so many of the stores and galleries were closed. No hours posted. A local advised us that weekdays were random. Too bad. Some of us could have spent money if a shop or two had been open. The restaurants were, and they all looked interesting. At least were able to enjoy the architecture along the street.
