Well this was one of the fun places of Skagway. If you have kids - don't be afraid to take them in. There is nothing sleazy about the place. The staff are all dressed in character (but not bawdy) and they are all super friendly. The tour upstairs(while short) is well worth the look. The food is very good (probably one of the best meals in town) and practically the only bar worth drinking at. Great atmosphere and lots of fun. Don't forget to tip !! It goes straight down their corset or bra !!
This place is infamous! We stopped in for a couple of beers before our cruise ship departed and after a great train ride and shopping. It's a fun place to see and visit. Great service, happy people, great appy's and drinks. Go and have fun!
An interesting combination - good beer and a brothel museum. The beer was good fare with a reasonable choice. We didn't eat at the Red Onion but the food did look reasonably good. The serving staff were dressed in costumes befitting the museum, some of which were very revealing. It is a busy venue, especially when the cruise ships are in, but well worth a visit. Allow a little time because service takes a while with all the people in there. There is an opportunity to purchase tee shirts and the likes to remind you of your time at the brothel. There is a small charge for the museum but entry to the bar is free
The entire feel of this place takes you back to a time when this was the center of the town. Staff was great and really plays the part.
Definielt worth the entrance fee. The gals have a wink in their eye and some good stories to tell. I learned a great deal about gold rush life from this short visit. Mind you i will never see Lysol or Coca cola in the same light again. Had a ball thanks for memories.
We didn't do the tour, but sure looked liked a lot of fun. A great people watching place....goods drinks and food!
Only spent about five minutes her as t was so packed. But in that short time I realized why this is a highlight of Skagway. It is a true step back in time to the Trail of '98. If this is what a brothel was like back then WOW!
Had a wonderful walking tour with our guide, Lacy Knickers. The walking tour through town was at a pleasant pace with lots of fun and interesting history thrown in. The brothel museum is certainly eye opening. Great way to spend some time in historical Skagway.
The Red Onion Saloon in downtown Skagway is also home to the Gold Rush Brothel Museum upstairs. For a fee of $10/ you can take a guided tour of Skagway's old comfort ladies house which was the only place of debauchery during the Gold Rush days. The place is preserved well and the guide is very informative. I found it quite interesting as we walked down the rooms, the various pieces of personal belongings of the ladies who lived and worked there, the old photographs and a rare glimpse of what life would have been about a hundred years back.
Worth the stop for a drink or app ~ we enjoyed both after a shore excursion & shopping at the Alaskan shirt company. VERY friendly waitresses and fun atmosphere. Never did the $10 tour to see the brothel but if that's your thing, then enjoy!
