My husband and I wanted to explore Silver City and get a feel for the history of the town. We both loved Silver City Museum. It is a quaint old home that has been a number of different posts for the town since it was built. The staff was wonderful. I loved the exhibits and the history, we came away very satisfied with what we had learned.
The museum is housed in the former Ailman home, a young prospector who discovered silver. Most of the displays are pictures/history of the town. There is a room set up for the Gila National Forest. The third floor is high enough where you get views of the town. Not a bad museum.
It's located in a house owned by one of the original town founders. Great collection of both the early mining activities and the native peoples. Free with a donation. Well worth a trip.
Very nice small museum, recommend $3 donation for admission. Interesting exhibits about history and geography of area.
Step back in time with people who are volunteering who really care; plus, the museum is offering great kids activities. They have re-thought the museum experience and found a way to make it come alive for kids and for adults. Great tours and informative exhibits that change regularly. Nicely managed.
Good to go to for getting a quick lesson on local history. The little gift shop was actually pretty awesome with very reasonable prices, picked up earrings for my wife and daughter and some nice polished rocks for my son.
A very interesting museum about the area including the old west and the mining industry in the area. Wonderful photos of the old and new mines in the area with explanation of the processes. It is located in an old home in Silver City with some antique furniture. However be prepared to climb some stairs to see some of the good parts.
Visited a couple of times before moving to the area. Still visit several times a year as exhibits change. For a small museum, this is a dynamic one and brings in traveling shows related to the southwest as well as has a great collection of photos and objects from local history.
interesting, small with a gift shop. easy to access in the downtown area. friendly staff. we enjoy historical displays and learning the history of an area.
A little history, but nothing great. The staff were nice and the place was somewhat interesting, but it is lacking a finished feel.
