It really feels like you are in Venice with narrow streets and a medieval atmosphere, a really pleasant place just to amble and see what you chance upon. Excellent museums and fascinating sights,
It'll be a quick tour but overall if you're in the area you should check it out. Will get some neat photos out of it!
The Palace of Diocleziano was part of a tour visit in Spalato during the summer cruise I took with my family in the mediterranean.. It was a great place to look around in the city. nice to look at it, lo hear some picturesque life music around and then walk across the hundreds shops there are around. If going in summertime I suggest do not forget your swimming costume and have a rest on the beach (also close to the main center - walking distance).
如果你要去斯普里特,你应该去看看看戴克里先宫殿,这个地方本身就很漂亮,但是它周围的氛围感觉更好。在宫殿的前面有很多商店和市场,让这个地方更加的有风味,就像我说的那样,值得一游。
Fabulous and stunning place, and as anywhere in Cratia: Gentle and service minded People everywhere! Just Love the country an the islands!
Modesty was not one of Emperor Diocletian’s attributes. He built the massive fortress as his retirement home. Little did he realize that the Roman structure begun in 298 A.D. would survive to become an enormous shopping complex and home to local citizens in the city which is one of the main ferry ports in Croatia. Highlights include the Roman Peristyle, the Cathedral of St. Dominus built in the Middle Ages, and the Temple of Jupiter with its headless black sphinx guarding the entrance. Four gates mark the entrance to the Palace: Golden, Silver, Bronze and Iron. The Bronze gate is the southern basement entrance, the original small entrance to the Palace basements. For a small fee, you can wander in and out of the halls. Free public toilets. The basement steps lead up to the Peristyle. The city’s produce market is held daily near the Silver Gate. Part of the charm of the decision to visit the Palace is simply to wander the massive halls but be prepared for many stops by hundreds of local vendors selling everything and providing any service you can imagine. Among them: antiques; apartments; arts and crafts; art galleries; bakeries; banks; books; bakeries; chocolate; souvenirs; women’s clothing; wine; travel services; jewelry. You get the idea. However, your decision to visit should also focus on the palace construction. Pay particular attention to the primitive Roman sewer system. Notice the holes in the ceiling where sewage was dumped. “Look out below!” Do not miss climbing to the Bell Tower of the Sv. Duje Cathedral in the center of the Peristyle for a panoramic view of the Palace. From the Peristyle, the basement of the Palace leads directly to the Riva, the waterfront promenade. Discover the Fountain near the center of the Palace in Augubio Palace where water comes from the ancient Roman aquaduct. It’s perfectly safe to drink according to the free publication Discover Split, ‘the what to see; where to go; what to do newspaper for tourists.´ Inside, is an exclusive Diocletian’s Palace Walking Map that shows every street and shop. It’s large and easy to read.If you only have a day to spend, make a Split decision: Diocletian’s Palace is the best way to spend your time.
really amazing, specially if you hav a guide to do the introduction and talk about history. Basements are very well preserved and you can organize so many special events there.
Was really enthralled by the history and the architecture of the palace. The locals made it a very enjoyable day with their choir and the local songs
It was very nice to go around this place and have a real taste of the Roman history. It would be better if you go with a walking tour so you can have more information about what you're actually seeing.
