Enroute on the R310 from Paarl to Simon's Town, we decided to stop into the Spier Wine Farm for lunch. What a great stop! It is a destination in itself with hotel, lovely grounds, wine tasting, picnic store, craft market shops and Table 8 restaurant. We started in the wine tasting room with a 'Frans K Smit' tasting (R90) and sampled 9 different wines. We walked the gardens and ended up at the Table 8 for lunch. It was a sunny, warm Saturday and quite busy but we were seated without a reservation within 10 minutes. Good food and service overlooking the gardens. A nice way to spend an afternoon.
A lovely and relaxing time was had here, by me. It was not too crowded so we were able to enjoy all that this place had to offer (pool, picnic, wine-tasting) - book the spa in advance :)
Very nice experience, amazingly friendly staff and a lot on offer. The tastings are great, as it is not only wine, but also chocolate, cheese and meat pairings, which a lot of the wine farms lack.A lot of people will see it as too commercialised, but stop being a hipster and just enjoy the spectacular wine and tastings on offer! Truly lovely setting and beautiful farm.
Book a picnic. The lake side and grounds are absolutely fabulous. Experience the Wine Tasting for only £35 for 5 wines. Tour the stores and the grounds. This truly is heaven and a haven from the wind when the coastal winds are bad!
We went to Spier Wine Farm when we realized that we didn't want to wait hours for the cable car up Table Mountain. It was a disappointment turned around into a wonderful day! We started with breakfast at Eight restaurant. Breakfast was ok, but what really wowed me was the homemade juice (a ginger/cucumber/apple concoction of deliciousness). After breakfast, we walked around the grounds then settled in for a wine and chocolate pairing which was a lot of fun. We ended the day with an impromptu picnic before heading to the airport for our flight home. If we could go back and do it again, the only thing we would change is the picnic. We would have pre-ordered it with a blanket and basket so that we could have found a nice spot to relax and eat. Obviously we didn't have that option since it was a spontaneous trip.Next time you're in Cape Town, pre-order a picnic and go enjoy a beautiful day in the winelands!
Beautiful wine Estate with lots of day (e. G. Picnic) and night activities (e.g. Movie nights) to spend with friends or families. Spend a beautiful Sunday there.
Visited in December for wine tasting only, since it was mid morning. We paid a very reasonable R35 pp to taste 5 wines and the service was very good. The tasting room is large, very pleasant, not too crowded or noisy, and the grounds are delightful with some very interesting craft stalls. Very nice location to while away an hour or two even if you don't eat.
We really loved the experience of the self assembled picnic basket we enjoyed with friends beside the lake
Great experience learning to ride the segways. Lovely tour of the vineyards on the segways. Informative and so beautiful. Cheese platter served with the wine tasting was really delicious and generous. Great day out
Dont get me wrong. Spier is a beautiful place. My wife and I stopped at Spier in order to enjoy a wine tasting. When we arrived in the wine tasting area at the bar, of the the ladies working there just looked at us. I asked if we can taste wine and then the 2 of them spoke to each other as if were not there. "Is hul saam hotel se mense" i replied no I am not from hotel "nee ek weet nie. Kan ons hul help" asked the other one. They both turned their backs on us and ignored us flat. We did not taste wine and went to 8 restorant instead. Not much better. Deli closed at 3 o clock? No smoking area even outside? And poor food.Spier is not all that
