Definitely worth the drive (and the price of admission). The Wolf Mountain Nature Center's knowledgeable staff & volunteers are dedicated to educating their visitors & committed to the importance of wolf and wildlife preservation. They answered all kinds of questions and thoughtfully explained the truths and myths about Wolves, Arctic Fox, and Coyotes. The animals are simply beautiful, truly loved and very well cared for. Will Pryor and the staff at Wolf Mountain Nature Center are awesome!
A wonderfully peaceful setting on a hill, two wolves greeted us at thecorner of the enclosure, as curious about us, as we where about them, as we stood 4 feet away from them, they where the deffinition of grace and strength. The Owner Will Pryor, I s a wonderful educator, and well informed speaker. The future plans include increasing the wolf population, and adding other endangered animals, and educational displays. My wife and I will return oten to watch them grow as a center, and learn more about our natural world as animals are added.
I found this place by accident several years ago on a trip with my father. The people are super nice, they are dedicated to the wolves and to educating the public.
Have visited this nature center on multiple occasions and each visit has been wonderful! Volunteer staff is very knowledgeable & friendly. Attended their annual "Honoring the Spirit of the Wolf" festival this past weekend (10-13-13) and had a blast! Although I agree w/ the prior review abt the driveway, I have found that in past visits, it was totally passable (tho 4 wheel drive vehicle is the best bet). Parking is ample and free! Again, in regards to the previous review abt admission fees, it WAS posted on the center's Facebook, website, & @ bottom of driveway in several places as to the SMALL admission fee of $5 which was totally reasonable considering all activities @ the event were FREE! Overall, a wonderful, relaxing, & educational place to visit and spend several hours!!
This was my second trip in 3 weeks. As an animal professional, I know that Will and Sophie definitely know what they are doing and tell the story in a great way. The animals are happy, the festival drew lots of people!! The entertainment was phenomenal, with cainsaw carving, face painting, magicians (Very Good!), DEC police dogs, native American song and dance-the BEST!, wildlife, sled dogs, the Utica Zoo's crew complete with great porcupine, wolf enrichment, great food and people. We had a blast, and for all those that are within 2-3 hours, trust me, it's worth the trip!!!Please remember that they only ASK for a donation, nothing set in stone. Well worth the suggested $5.00 as they are a not for profit 501 (C0(3)!! Lots of things to do on the way back north, but don't miss this gem. The gift shop is definitely on my Xmas shopping list!!! Thank you for a memorable day!!!!!! Planning for next year!!! Best, Sue and John from the NYS Zoo!!!
We really liked it here. Everything was very well kept. The arctic foxes were absolutely adorable, and curious about us. The wolves were very laid back, and looked healthy and content. We also enjoyed going inside the teepees and learning about native americans.Everyone there was very nice, including the animals.
Close to North Binghamton, but maintains very quite and beautiful nature trails. Scenic place for a jog with multiple trails of varied difficulty.
Beautiful animals in the mountain setting. A little off the road but worth it. Hearing them howl is worth the trip alone. Highly recommend heading there towards the evening.
What a great place!! Absolutely worth the drive. But it's really best with a tour. Will is so knowledgeable and dedicated to his mission that you can't help but find the whole project fascinating. We only spent the afternoon there. But we're hoping to go back as volunteers in the summer to spend a couple days helping, camping in the tepees, and, hopefully, hearing the animals howl at night. Can't wait.
Very educational for children and adults. Wolves were awesome, they howled, plain view for us to see, clean facility, friendly staff.
