Thanks for taking the time to visit us again! We appreciate your feedback and will continue to strive to improve. We have lots of exciting new things happening this spring and we hope to see you again soon.
I have been to The Market at Grelen multiple times. I've been on my own to purchase plants, garden containers and gifts. I know very little about gardening and the staff is always very friendly and helpful (and without condescension!). When my parents came to visit from Washington, D.C. we had a lovely visit at Montpelier then went to Grelen for a delicious lunch, walk and shopping. The setting is stunning. The staff is wonderful. The food is delicious. The shop is such fun. I highly recommend a visit!
Jeff--thanks so much for your kind words. That means a lot coming from you. Hope to see you out here again soon. Best, Leslie (& Dan!)
Whether you are a gardener, a home design enthusiast, a lover of wonderful views and great food this will more than meet your expectations. A must visit whether you are local to the area or if you are visiting Charlottesville. I have visited several times with my husband, my family and my friends. Fits all situations. Worth the trip.
Close to Montpelier, the home of President and Father of the Constitution, James Madison, sits the lovely Market at Grelen. I went there this past summer with some friends during a local fair they were hosting. We had so much fun!! Are you hungry? Then you are in luck as their food is excellent, making the most of their own homegrown and locally sourced ingredients. We ate out on their beautiful terrace and enjoyed the gorgeous views. Afterwards we enjoyed looking at all the beautiful, unique home and garden items in their shop. There's also the nursery and greenhouse to check out as well. This is a great place to meet friends, or to bring family, I hope to get back there soon!
This is a lovely nursery. It is truly a beautiful setting, but each time I've been there (this was visit #3) I've either been rudely ignored or answered abruptly when I've asked questions. On my first visit I was one of two customers. The other was apparently a friend of the shop keeper and they chatted the entire time I was there waiting for service. I gave up and left. Perhaps they can afford to loose business. It's unfortunate since I have a newly built home on 13 acres needing landscaping.
Thanks so much! We are thrilled that you have enjoyed your experiences thus far and we look forward to your next visit. :)
Gosh, we sure hope you will try us again! You must have caught us on an off day. We continue to strive to improve and are working on a lot of exciting changes for spring. Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback.
I have taken 2 separate classes at The Market at Grelen - flower arranging and wreath making. Both were very informative and fun. Shared a delicious lunch (and bottle of wine) with friends from the class and went home with a beautiful arrangement. The shop is stocked full of beautiful things for the home and garden - great variety of prices. Good hostess gifts, as well. The nursery is organized and the gardeners are well-informed about how different plants will do in a variety of settings. Their events are fun - Halloween was so fun! Fire pits, live music, a haunted walk through the berry patch, Santa brunch and a fall flea market. Always well put together and organized.
we stopped in at the Grelen for lunch last month, one staff person to try & cover the shop, wait on folks & prepare lunch. Outdoor patio for dining, had the chicken salad, a side & a stale roll. The vanilla honey ice cream was flavorful.
