It's only 10-15 minutes from town (superior). Well worth the time to go see it. We just bought the 1 hour pass ($5). Plenty of time to see the loopon the island. It is just ($10) for the day if you want to spend more time there. It's a must see...
I just love hearing water gurgling as soon as you get out of your vehicle! The river is right next to the parking lot and little falls are everywhere! You can walk across the bridge and up along the bank to see the water falling over the rocks or go downstream and see the falls with the bridge in the background. I imagine this area is very crowded in the summer with people in the water...I'm glad we were able to come in the fall!
We recently stayed at this campsite for two nights as part of a Boy Scout trip. There are several bathrooms in the campground - clean and conveniently located. The campsites are fairly small and include a picnic table and fire ring (if you want firewood, you can buy a $5 bundle at the ranger station). We got some rain and the sites got pretty wet with poor drainage.
we spent about an hour at this park, the weather was rainy so we didn't do any major hiking, but will be back to spend more time exploring this site.
My family and I (2 yr old, 4 yr old, and my husband) spent one night/two days camping at Amnicon Falls State Park. This park is beautiful and the staff are awesome! Upon arriving, the lady at the check in desk was very helpful in letting me know where to find the local parade, fireworks, and Pattison State Park where showers can be taken since there are none at Amnicon Falls. The campsites are very nice; each has it's own area so you have privacy from the other campers and are fairly decent size. The kiddos enjoyed walking in the falls and looking for 'Yogi' and 'Boo Boo' on the trails.
We stopped here to check it out while camping at Pattison State Park, after visiting I was glad I chose Pattison for camping. This park was much busier, very pretty falls and rock formations though. The trails made me a little nervous with my 4 year old because there are no rails or fences so hold on to your little ones! We ended up leaving to grab lunch and returned and a lot of people had left so maybe it was only busy because it was warm and everyone was swimming under the falls. Overall, worth checking out.
We spent the day walking the trails and checking out the waterfalls. The trails are so close to the water and at some spots you can walk across the water. They have some nice picnic spots and the rock formations are really pretty. There are no guardrails or fences so be very careful if you have little ones.
There are a lot of waterfalls and nature treasures in Wisconsin to visit but this one is by far the most easily accessible for travelers. Right off of Highway 2 just a mile East of Hwy 53 is this little State Park Gem. A small parking lot with facilities right next to a bridge and viewing areas make this an easy visit for anyone but especially to those who have disabilities but still want to get out and enjoy nature. You won't be disappointed.
Nice park. Easy trails to view two falls. That is as far as we went. Had to cross the covered bridge to the 2nd falls where we came upon two teenagers fishing. They had come for walleye and had a couple on a stringer. However, one had hooked something huge. He had been fighting for 1/2 hr when we got there. My husband and the kid got a couple glimpses of it and figured it was a sturgeon - close to 40lbs! The kid's reel was bent over as far as it would go. He kept saying, "this is going on the wall for sure". He had called everyone he could think of to bring a net, but no luck. Our parking permit was running out so we had to leave. I will always wonder if he ever brought it in. Back to the falls - what we saw was very pretty. They area was very scenic. I can't remember what we paid, but we were able to go in for an hour or two for a small fee. If you like hiking, it looked like a very pretty area to do so. Porta johns were at the parking area.
The park is so clean and absolutely beautiful! We enjoyed the falls and the layout of the park. We plan on returning.
