When we arrived we weren't sure if where we parked was the right place because we didn't notice any sign above the entrance area. Once we parked we went inside to be greeted, if you even want to call it that, by a staff member. When we walked in she did not acknowledge us so I had to say hello to her when we walked up to pay. When we were paying it seemed like she was slamming the cash box around. It seemed like she wasn't having a good day and wasn't happy to be there. I had a few questions to ask her and she wasn't happy to answer them. After we left the grumpy staff member, we were greeted by the pool. There were a lot of kids and families in the pool so we went down to the natural spring. This was the best part. Although quite cold, it was warmer than the greeting we were given by the staff member. We slipped getting into the water and basically slid into the water. While swimming over to the waterfall there were quite a few huge rocks that we ran into. We stubbed our toes a few times on the rocks and hit our knees but didn't get too badly hurt. The waterfall was gorgeous. We sat on the rocks under the waterfall for a while and took it all in. After we got out of the spring we walked around the grounds. The garden area was nice but seemed a little unkept. It smelled delightful though. When were leaving we still weren't acknowledged by the staff member so we said goodbye to her. I don't think you should pay $7 per person if the staff is going to be so grumpy. If it wasn't for the natural spring being so beautiful I wouldn't have even rated this place a 3. I know we weren't there for the staff but I would still expect them to treat us nicely.
We have been going to KS for about 10 years. The staff is always kind and the water is beautiful and refreshing. Yes, the rocks are slippery. I reccomend wearing grippy water shoes. Scenery and waterfalls are gorgeous. One if my happy places. Could go here every day except we live in Houston.
Thanks for coming and visiting our springs and camping out with us! Our main draw to Krause Springs are the springs and pools themselves. We offer camping to those who wish to stay overnight in a tent or RV and want to enjoy the property more than just 1 day. I'm not sure what you mean by "not calling what we offer here camping." I'm sure every camping experience is different from the last, but by definition it is indeed called camping, no matter what part of the country you're from.We try to maintain the cleanliness of the springs as best as we can with our limited staffing, and I apologize if the standards for camping bathrooms were not met. We try to make our rounds throughout the day on the property, but also wish to provide our guests with privacy during their visit.I hope next time you visit, it is a more enjoyable experience as you now know what to expect. Please email me any other details about your trip that you feel might help improve the overall camping experience at Krause Springs: kyle@krausesprings.net Thanks again for visiting!
Great place to cool off. Be sure to go early it gets crowded fast. The kids had a blast jumping off the cliff and swinging off the rope.
We live in the area and try to spend as much time as possible at Krause. In the HOT Texas summer months, it's the absolute best place to spend a day. The water is cool, the people are super friendly, you can bring your own coolers, and the Cypress trees are just gorgeous. It does get crowded, so get there early to get the best spots! You can thank me later :-)
Having been there, Meredith R's review is right on the money. As she said, they only accept cash, so come prepared. The also don't allow dogs or glass bottles. For beauty, I'd give the place 5 out of 5 stars. My wife spent a bit of time wandering the garden taking pictures. It was pretty. From there we made our way down to the bath house/restrooms to change. I was told to go down and to the left. It would have been more accurate to say go down until you can go left, then go left right away. The bath house is below where they take your money, but higher than most other structures. Even then, it's rather small.Once changed, we made our way down to the natural pool. What the other reviewers have said about it being slippery is very, very true. It's dry, but very smooth. We both slipped just getting to the water. We found a good place to enter the water from the left side as you are facing the waterfall and cave behind it. The bottom is mostly sand and it is a fairly gentle slope.I can not emphasize this enough: BRING AND WEAR SWIMMING SHOES. Even the sandy part had rocks. Further, the water was very green and there were rocks hidden under the water. Swim slowly. Some rocks are shallow, some deeper, with sudden drop-offs. While most of the rocks are smooth and slippery, although pitted, one or two I was warned by fellow swimmers are sharp. They cut themselves on them.I did make it to the cave and waterfall. In the cave I was standing on something that wasn't rock, but wasn't sand either. It felt plant like. Twice I felt something nip at my feet. It didn't hurt, but it did startle me. There are turtles in there. My swim ended when I nailed my shin on a rock despite trying my best not to do that. It drew blood, but wasn't a serious injury.I'd like to give this a 5 star, but for all the beauty here, it is very easy to injury yourself. If you're not steady on your feet, stay away! I was told by a local that the water gets green (and harder to see the rocks) around July 4th, so come before that if you can.
Nice and clean. Lots of places to hang out by the water. You never feel like you're stuck with a bunch of other people. Maybe family owned? Great getaway
Cool, clean water on a hot day in Texas is always nice, but Krause Springs was a real treat! Both the swimming pool and swimming hole is fed by 30+ natural springs. There are several tables scattered throughout the area for picnic lunches and a large, clean shower facility. Two things to consider before going: 1) bring cash for admission, and 2) wear water shoes/socks that provide good traction (slippery rocks!). Also, bring a camera—the site is beautiful! There is also an RV park and camping section.
I've spent several camping trips at Krause Springs. The good: the springs are WONDERFUL... so cool, so pretty, and very inviting. The bad: there is no noise ordinance, and some people are rude and listen to their music all night long. It's not like at a State Park where people are generally much more courteous. Additionally, as there are no sites, people might set up a tent right next to you, and the prices are steep. But, you don't need reservations, so for a last-minute getaway, it's GREAT.
We arrived on a Mon afternoon after spending the morning zipling. We were hot & ready to cool. We did not receive the same reception as previous reviewer at all. The lady at the front was very nice & chit chatted with us for a bit. First we walked the garden, which I really loved. The giant windchimes are awesome! The bathrooms were nice. We skipped the pool & went straight to the natural area & swimming hole. Make sure you go down the stone stairs instead of the metal stairs. The area is really pretty! Water was pretty chilly. There is a little "cave" behind the waterfall. Saw lots of turtles & fish. The rocks are VERY slippery, be careful! We didn't stay as long as we would have liked (hunger was kicking in) but as we headed out, the lady up front said bye & again was very nice. Very enjoyable time.
