We took our kids horseback riding for the first time at Star B Stables. Not only was Faye (owner) able to meet our last minute needs, as we called the same day that we wanted to ride, she was friendly and made us feel welcomed. The actual trail was wonderful, we rode through trees over a meadow with beautiful views and through a small creek. The kids really enjoyed the experience, its going to be a tough one to beat! The horses were terrific as we are total novices. We rode Rebel, Sandman, Megan, and Miss Red. Thank you Star B Stables for making this experience wonderful.
We heard this was a wonderful place and we think the owner is so nice and we loved the entire experience. We will definitely be back and tell others to come to Staunton and enjoy horseback riding here.
Just three miles off Interstate 64 is Faye Bartley’s 150 acre property, with stables and horseback rides. As we were far from experienced riders, Faye was patient in her instructions, and her horses were gentle, too (I bet they could handle more up-tempo riders as well). The ride had wonderful variety in scenery: some uphill, some downhill, through open meadows and partly through forest, with two stream crossings. Add this to a day hike on the AT and a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway—a great way to see beautiful country!
We could tell from the start that this trail ride was going to be a good one. Faye, the trail guide/owner, was very friendly, warm, patient, and helpful. She took the time to give good tips both before and during the ride. The horses we rode (Sandman, CiCi, Rebel, and Megan) were the gentlest, most well-behaved horses we have ever ridden. The trail was very scenic and pleasant; it included pasture, a couple of stream crossings, a ride through the woods, and beautiful mountain views! Mounting/dismounting the horses was made very easy, so even the most inexperienced rider could feel comfortable at Star B. It is clearly evident that Faye cares deeply for her riders, and the horses, too. Highly recommended!!
Loved coming here. The staff was very helpful, accommodating, and friendly. Really enjoyed the whole experience.
My husband and I enjoyed a one hour trail ride at Star B Stables yesterday! Faye our gracious guide and owner of the stables lead us on a wonderful ride that included woods, valley, and, hillside views. It was a chilly day weather wise, but a great day to ride. We rode Rebel and Minnie, they were patient, gentle horses. This was my husbands first horseback ride and he really loved it. Thanks to Faye for her guided tour of her property. We would recommend this stable to anyone wanting to experience a beautiful trail ride! Must do!
My little girl (who is horse crazy) and I spent an hour or more here with the owner, Faye Bartlett (who is lovely and kind) riding on the trails around her large piece of property. The horses were well trained, responded to the reins and were calm. Faye will let children six and older ride, to my understanding. We had a great time; my daughter was in heaven: "Daddy, this is my first real trail ride!" She handled herself well, and received compliments from the "trail boss" herself. If you like riding on a beautiful day, call and make an appointment to ride. The view from the top of the hill near the stable is worth it.
Faye, the owner, was a great tour guide. The views on this trip alone necessitate at least four stars. The great experience, low price, and friendly atmosphere is what got it the extra star. My wife rode Minnie and I rode Rebel (two mixed breed Tennessee Walkers) who both had great temperaments. The whole ride was filled with beautiful views of the property and surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. I would definitely recommend visiting Faye and the Star B Stables if you’re in the area.
What a great way to enjoy the view! Horses are very well cared for and are in excellent condition. Love that western saddles are in use as we prefer this type of saddle. Please keep in mind that these Horses are Walkers so if you are looking for a run this is not going to happen. This is a slow beautiful ride in through the country side.
We were staying at the Iris Inn in Waynesboro and they recommended Star B Stables for horseback riding. Since they received great reviews, especially for novice riders, we gave them a call. They were able to set us up for a ride with only a day's notice. We appreciated the easy mount set up, gentle horses who knew the trail (we basically had to just hold on). The trail has some hills, some woods, and stream. It was great to enjoy nature from a different view. We would love to return in the fall or spring.
