We visited on a very cold day so only drove around a bit and visited the shrine. There was too much snow to walk around the grounds and it was difficult to see where we were officially welcome. We will definitely need to go back in the warmer weather. The photos of the main Church look wonderful.
The life sized stations of the cross with a backdrop of the Berkshires...simply breathtaking. A very serene and holy experience is created for you at this shrine. I left feeling calm and very close to God. Can't wait to go back.
This was on my bucket list, and I was not disappointed. Beautiful grounds. Very peaceful! A perfect setting to renew and reflect. The gift shop has a nice assortment and helpful staff. There are many areas to be found while walking the grounds to sit and soak in the peace and beauty.
If going to Mass, get there early. I arrived close to Mass time and it was full, standing room only for us late arrivals. Much more beautiful than the pictures. MUST visit. Many areas for prayer and meditation, some more accessible than others. It was the end of summer; should have brought mosquito repellent for when visiting the areas among the woods.
Peaceful, moving, and beautiful. You have to experience, to hard to put into words. It is a self reflection attraction. You will take away from it something, but something for you. There is a lot of area, bring or wear sneakers. You can spend a half our or 4 hours there. There is a lot of parking and paths, all over the property. There is no fee, it is all outside, so a good day to go is one of our up and coming beautiful fall days. The view will be incredible! Would be appreciated by both catholic and non catholic/ religious person. There are a lot of port-a-potty's! The church has steep stairs and I did not notice a handicap accessible sign.
I have always wanted to go to religious places, and this place is a perfect site for pilgrimages and place for prayer. My husband is from Massachusetts, but he's never been to this place. Then we visited his family to attend his Mom's birthday, the family asked me where do I want to go in Mass so I suggested to see this place. The place is in Eden Hill, It was truly a serene place for prayer. We were fortunate to attend a mass around 2pm on a Saturday, after the mass the Divine Mercy Chaplet was recited then benediction and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. My mother -in-law said that this is the first she's been there that she doesn't need to walk far, we hopped out of our car Infront of the Shrine. There's a wide parking lot across the church. We also visited their gift shop, very nice selections of merchandise.Definitely,I will visit this place again when I visit Massachusetts.
We had no idea. The compound is beautiful, but the series of sculptures of the 14 stations of the cross are stunning and very moving. Go see it.
Strolled along path following the Stations of the Cross while Gregorian chants played on speaker. Wished we could have stayed for out-door Mass. Church is lovely too. Could not walk steep path to Lourdes Grotto.
Had a mini getaway during MLK weekend, and decided to head out to the Berkshires for some quiet. Found this place when looking for things to see during the trip, and made the quick drive from Great Barrington up the hill to the Grounds in Stockbridge. There was a lot of land with beautiful landscape views. Walked around the stations of the cross, beautifully crafted sculptures that brought the story to life. There were also other little sculptures, gifts, and a candle lighting area outside. We visited in the winter time, so there was plenty of snow, but it was still nice to see. We spent about an hour on the grounds. The energy there was great. I recommend anyone visit that likes connecting to the spirit and Mother Earth. I am not Catholic, but could appreciate the space. We did not get into the Church, but saw others entering and it looked lovely; perhaps will visit again in the spring/summer months.
The grounds were very lovely, but a bit spread out. Be prepared to walk or drive around. The gift shop was wonderful with a large selection of items. Staff was very friendly. Definitely plan to stay for mass.
