We have been twice to this winery & I would say just pass. Wines are only average at best, Nice deck but there are far better wineries with really good wines to visit
Woodrose Winery is still a bit of an unknown winery along the 290 wine trail in Fredericksburg, TX and in my opinion is the best value for the money with both outstanding red and white wines. It is a wonderful tasting experience, as you are served at a table seated either inside or out and also have several options for tasting depending on your palate. Their wine club is very flexible and a good value allowing you to change out selections prior to shipment and if you pick it up at the winery, you are treated with a food pairing on select weekends. The staff is friendly and caring, the wines excellent and you feel like a guest when you are there. This is a must stop for any wine drinker visiting the Fredericksburg area and I promise you will love it and be happy you chose it.
Not sure if the winery reads posts from the consumer... but I should have. We did this winery as part of a tour, and it was the first stop. I still cannot believe this, but each of the 7 wines we had were NOT good. Not even closet to good. Talking to the employees later, they said the owner does not give us the good wines to try. I would imagine if we are paying money then they would want us to try the wines, with the thought that we will buy them.
The Woodrose Winery is located far off the road among farms and ranches and back a long lane Very relaxing just getting there. We tried the whites 6 for $10. The flavors are unique and dry. While we are not favorable to dry wines, the others with us loved them. The staff was very friendly and gave us a lot of information. Next time we go we will try the sweet whites more favorable to our pallet. The only difficulty we had was figuring out which building contained the tasting as there are no signs indicating as such. The tasting is in the first building of the five building complex.
We visited five wineries today and this was the worst. The wines just weren't good. Slightly off color certainly. I remarked to my wife that one of them was UT orange! Not expensive and a nice seating area; but just not good wine or good finger foods. Skip this one and head somewhere else.
We visited the winery and loved it. This winery uses an outdoor setting. Customers are seated outdoors on a patio area rather than standing around a counter at the other wineries. Winery staff move from table to table to serve you. This was a nice touch. Great customer service.
Woodrose Winery has a big, new beautiful barn and kitchen that is used for special occasions. Since we were in Texas for the holidays, we made a visit to pick up our club wine package. On the day we picked it up, the winery was providing food pairings to go with each wine. The food was just divine, In fact I asked for a second plate which they gladly provided, Of course they provided the wine to go with the food, As we were leaving they gave us a flyer that they were putting on a New Year's Eve dinner party with a different wine to go with each course. There would be music and fireworks. We decided to give it a try and were we ever pleased. They provided everything for a fun evening. There was one set price, no hidden extras. It was $55 per member and $65 per non-member (BTW there is no charge to join and although you agree to a quarterly shipment of selected wine, you can change the selection or skip that quarter's shipment altogether). There were 6 courses and 6 wines, too much to describe except the salmon was perfectly cooked and the prime rib, not usually my favorite was as render as a filet mignon. The fireworks were what you would expect from a small town, but more than what you would expect from a small winery. Unfortunately, it was so unexpectedly cold that most folks watched from there car. We rang in the New Year with two glasses of champagne cozied up in our Jeep with the heat on full blast.
Visited the afternoon of 8/24. Nice and spacious tasting facility. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Tasted most whites and blushes, our cellar is bare. We purchased several of the Ruby Red, White Merlot and Sea Breeze. After a fashion the host mixed two resulting in an additional purchase. We joined their club and plan on a return visit.
We had very good service with our tasting, but none of the 8 people in the group found a wine they really liked. That was disappointing.
Best TX winery my wife and I have found! They do everything right here: every wine they serve is smashing and made with 100% TEXAS grapes, they offer seating so you can SIT and taste (vice making you stand like virtually every other tasting room), the club terms are reasonable (unlike 4.0's - read the fine print!), charming and shaded back deck with live music, and the staff is knowledgeable and very warm. This was the first TX winery where my wife and I found every single wine offered was a contender versus benchmarks like Cali, Italy, etc. The most notables that went home with us: the 3 zinfandels we tasted, both merlots we tasted (and the '12 merlot is truly a rock-star!), the warner's barrel blend, and the lone barrel reserve blend (smoky with fruit and depth - amazing). The owners, who spent plenty of time with us just shooting the breeze, throw pretty huge club product pick-up parties where they bbq massive amounts of food for free (!?) for the club members who come to pick-up their club shipments, and the food is prepared to pair with the wines being released - crazy . I cannot recommend Woodrose enough!
