This is a lovely mission with a beautiful view of the Santa Ynez valley. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
This is a working church but in the system of the California missions this is one of the newest. The attached museum, which I believe is the justification/excuse for charging the admission fee could use some help: the rooms are small and feel overflowing. At least one of the stations of the self-guided tour did not work during our visit. The view from the parking lot in front of the church is very nice. I am glad we stopped, but would not make this a destination for a trip.Unfortunately there is not much to keep a pre-teen interested.
love the location. very quiet and small church but it has a homey feeling to it. always stop by here everytime were in Solvang. it has a huge view in front of the mission, very hilly and a lot of farmland. very relaxing
We stop here to "light a candle" on every trip. Nicely kept grounds, chapel and architecture. Very peaceful place to wander and talk to God regardless of your beliefs.
Working church with good artifacts. Quiet with very well kept grounds. Worth the stop. I've been to many of the other California Missions and found this one to be in good shape. worth the stop
The view from this mission is incredible and worth the drive just to see that, but the mission itself is small and just OK as a tourist destination.
My biggest regret is not staying longer here to walk around the valley down below. All the missions are beautiful and have very similar stories, but for a midwestern girl, the land here is what really sold me. It's nestled up in the mountains above a gorgeous hilly valley, which we happened to be present for mid-late afternoon when the sun was nearing down. It was a perfect visit with a perfect landscape. We headed into Solvang town after for a stroll and some dinner. could not have been a mor beautiful setting!
We didn't go inside but it was a beautiful mission with a stunning view of the valley from the Stations of the cross.
Could not have asked for a nicer day to take a self guided tour with my sister and friends. If you like to visit historical landmarks, don't miss out on this one.
This is my second visit to Old Mission Santa Ines. The location is absolutely breathtaking as you have views of the valley below. My family did the tour and we loved looking at all the artwork on the walls as well as the paintings and artifacts. The church itself is beautiful and peaceful. The grounds in the inner courtyard was also pleasant to stroll through. Lastly, if you like gift shops with religious articles this one is a fun one to shop at. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit and wouldn't hesitate to visit again.
