I am so happy that you enjoyed your wine tour. I had a great time showing you around our beautiful wine country. Tell your friends in NC to come on out and visit us. Hope to see you again in the not too distant future!! Cathy
Just returned from great road trip to northern California. We walked through redwood forests, and drove along some very scenic and historic highways in the heart of gold country. The towns of Sutter Creek, Placerville, Colombia, Auburn, Murpheys, etc, are around 100 years old and don't appear to have changed much. Napa was nice but we prefer the area and wineries around gold country better. They were also very accepting of my little dog. Plus the tasting in gold country is free as opposed to $25 for three sips in Napa. And the town of Shasta can and should be avoided.
Used Gold Country Wine Tours for a trip to Sutter Creek in December. We had a group of 8 so we chartered the tour bus. We have been to Amador many times, and knew where we wanted to go. Cathy was very helpful in planning and contacting the wineries for appointments. Found a new one too on her recommendation. The tour was great, and the bus made it back in time to get decorated for the christmas light parade in Sutter Creek. All of us had a great time. Expect all 8 of us back next year. Thanks Cathy! Enjoyed the classic rock in the bus.
My husband and I booked a mid-week wine tour with Gold Country Wine Tours. They were prompt in their arrival at our B&B and had wine glasses and a bottle of fine red wine waiting for us, along with copious amounts of water. Cathy was our guide and it turned out that we were the only couple on the tour that day, so it quickly became a private tour. Cathy was just full of information about the mining history of the area, the history of the vineyards and their owners. The tasting room managers all knew her and she knew them. It was a fantastic trip - great lunch, very relaxed. Becasue it was just the two of us, we were efficient in our visits to the tasting rooms and ended up going to seven wineries instead of the customary 4 or 5. Cathy also gave info about the Gold Pass, which is a great service. They will go to the wineries you have visited and purchased wine, will gather up all the bottles and then ship it to your home destination. Don't have to worry about it jostling in the back of the bus or sitting in the hotel room. Great service. THANKS, CATHY!!!!!
Mary: We are so glad that you enjoyed your wine tour with us visiting some of our special Amador County wineries and their delicious wines. Your group was incredibly fun and well versed when it comes to wines and wine tasting. This made it all the more fun for us to share this wine country with you. Cheers, Kirk & Cathy
My wife and I reserved this tour on a Monday for the following day and Cathy accommodated us by taking us around by ourselves in her own car! It was like a personal VIP experience. We visited a number of great wineries, had a great picnic lunch at one of them. Cathy described the history of the area - the gold mining and wineries as we drove around the countryside. All in all a first-class experience and the highlight of our vacation in the gold country!Steve & Nancy from Altadena
I have been a wine enthusiast since I lived on the Rhine in 1972, know California wine country very well, and have visited El Dorado & Amador counties many times. The wines & vineyards are quickly becoming some of the best in the world, IMHO, especially as tastings are free, people are friendly, and prices are v.good value. Cathy & Kirk are 2 recovering lawyers, who did their homework - on wine makers, on vineyards, on area history. They showed us places, people & "stuff" (including a gourmet picnic lunch) that we wouldn't have found any other way. And they didn't start with "their" list of wineries, but worked with us based on "our list", then added 1-2 that we deem very special! Pickup at our Inn, flexible schedule, details like wine storage in the tour van, logo'ed wine glasses as souvenirs. This is extraordinary!
My fiancé and I joined up with some of our friends, her parents, my aunt and uncle for a full day excursion in Gold Country Wine Tours' comfortable bus. The tour included stops at four local wineries (they would have taken us to a fifth, but we were all exhausted by the day's end). Each winery had it's own unique charm and history and we were treated well each time. The tour included a lunch that was absolutely excellent. The food was from a local bakery in Sutter Creek and we dined at one of the wineries where we had a marvelous view. Throughout the tour, our friendly guides gave us insights into the area's history and how the wine industry developed. It was a very nice, relaxing, and tasty day and, I thought, a good value to boot. I highly recommend them.
Bill: Thanks so much for your kind words regarding your recent wine tour experience with us. Reviews like yours mean a lot to us. Hope to see you again on one of our tours! Kirk
