A nice place to walk, it's like a little forest in the city. Several places of interest, statues, ruins and wishing bridges, where you have to hold your breath and cross the bridge and make a wish.
Make a wish, when you cross the bridge for the first time and your wish will come true ! The Toomemagi park is beautiful and you can spent hours there, if you like hiking.
This is a great place to go to take a walk for few hours during the hottest hours of the day since the huge trees give a nice shade. It is nice and green with lots of statues, ruins, places to sit down and even a nice coffee shop with good lunch. Ask your hotel to give you a free guide booklet (Tartu by foot or something like that), so you don't miss anything.
Walk up the hill from the town hall square for a pleasant walk between the trees, enjoy the view over the old town from up there, and definitely spend some time wandering around in the ruins of the cathedral. There are also some interesting bridges, statues and of course, university buildings on the hill.
We found "Toome Hill" whilst exploring Tartu City we had walk up the side of the hill as we saw an interesting building, the paths aren't gritted in December so be careful slippy ice.The area is peaceful and calming, the monuments in the area are dedicated to famous Estonian people who who dedicated their lives to helping the Estonian people. Toome Hill was our history lesson about Estonian and the monument descriptions where translated into English. We had some great photographs in the Cathedral Ruins but the museums was closed during the December period.I would recommend visiting Toome Hill to learn some Estonian history and to look at the landscape over Tartu City. There is a cafe in the area.
Toome Hill in Tartu is liked by everybody:by students to study there,by locals to walk or sit between old trees or by tourists. Its very central. There are also old ruins as its the place where the habitants lived in very past. Many legends about the place.Nice views from high points to the town. You can go walking to the Hill directly from the Town Hall or the University, many paths. When you are tired of the hot day,its good to go and rest a little.
