I don't care much for sweet wines and that is the majority of what they produce. The non sweet wines are too pricey. They do carry a nice selection of wine related items including local art
First of all I have to say that this is better wine than you will find on the Rocky Top kool-aid tour. They have semi-sweet and sweet selections but they are not the sickeningly sweet almost syrupy wines that are offered at most of the other Local wineries. It did not taste like they added sugars and flavorings after the fact but actually stopped the fermentation process before all the sugars were converted into alcohol like you are supposed to do. They also offer a lightly oaked Chardonnay that is good but they are out of Their Cabernet Sauvignon which was disappointing but we will go back in April when their next batch of Dry Red is expected. Nice building and a comfortable tasting experience but I have to comment on another reviewers claim that "the building was new log construction", it is a metal pole building with faux log siding inside and out, nicely done but not "new log construction".
My husband and I visited last year but the winery was not open yet. On this years' visit we made a point of stopping and we are certainly glad that we did! By the time we walked out, we had 3 bottles of wine! Blackberry (my personal favorite), Rustic Cabin Red (hubby's favorite), and Old Mill Red (which we both like). The building is new log construction, beautifully set up and very clean. I saw several people sitting by the fireplace drinking glasses of wine and talking. There is also supplies for a picnic with wine that are offered for sale along with t-shirts with their logo and wine related slogans, some pretty humorous! We were told they are setting up a website for online orders. I believe they offer a winery tour but we were there near closing and did not ask. But there's always next time! And there will be a next time for us!
Great stop did wine tasting and purchased some delicious wine and adorable glasses. The wine is priced very reasonable and friendly staff. Must go if you like wine it's worth it.
After hearing a lot of good things about this winery and awards they have received in the paper, we decided to go for a tasting. The staff is very friendly and greets you as soon as you walk through the door. The wine tasting here is very nicely done compare to other places we have been. The reds are on one side of the list and whites on the other, which is very nice if you prefer one over the other. The do a very nice job explaining their wines. All of the wines we sampled were amazing. If you are in Townsend this is a must stop. Also if you have never had a muscadine wine and sweet is your thing you have to try theirs.
My family and I try to get to Cades Cove several times a year and this summer we finally got a chance to stop at the winery and it was well worth it. The people are very polite and knowledgeable. My wife and aren't big wine drinkers but we do enjoy it occasionally and these people were very helpful and directed us towards a very delightful selection. 2 very big thumbs up!
A visit to Cades Cove Cellars in Townsend will definitely enhance your mountain experience, Great wine - Great location and a really nice winery. The semi-sweet muscadine is a favorite of ours. We spend our winters in the South for the most part and in Townsend at least once a month during the spring, summer, and fall. This winter( Dec. ) we found ourselves out of wine and ordered a case. Delivery was excellent and I think the wine was the best yet. Keep up the excellent work. See Yall in March when the Bugs hatch and the Trout start to fed!!
We like sweet wines. The raspberry wine was the best we've ever had. Loved it! Next was blackberry. The blush was great too, fruity going down, dry afterwards.
I was able to taste all of the wines before purchasing and the staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Not only is the store beautiful, but the wine labels are so cool, I can't wait to give them as gifts. I will be returning to Cades Cove Cellars soon!
I love the Sweet Muscadine and the Rustic Cabin Red. It is not crowded at all. They also have bears on their glasses so I had to have some.
