The place is always crowded. We dined in the bar area and could barely have a reasonable conversation between the two of us. The food is good and the drink prices are reasonable. It is a popular pace to dine in The Villages.
We've enjoyed Cane Garden since the first day it opened, almost 10 years ago. Like most of the "country club" restaurants in The Villages, it is noisy. Wait staff is experienced and efficient. The food is always top notch with lots of standard items, some great "comfort foods" and some innovative dishes. It is interesting that this is one of the very few (3, in fact) restaurants that were originally opened by the Developer of The Villages, but which still remains under that control while the others were sold off. The Developer knows a good thing, and has held on to the place. This is a great place for lunch, also, not just dinner.
The course is not the widest and the bunkers are a challenge. From the tips you can use every club in the bag. The bunkers are fluffy so expect to be penalized. The par 3's could stand to be at least 25 yards longer but overall it is a favorite of mine. The chicken fingers in the dining room are tasty...........topped off with an iced tea and viola!!!
I have no dislikes about this restaurant, except the wait times when the "snowbirds" are back. The food is good, and the golf course views are great.
We came on a Friday night. I had the herbed whitefish. It was tasty. The seasonable vegetables were good. The price was right. No wait even though the restaurant looked to be quite busy.
I don't know why every green on Hibiscus (except #1) has to be fronted by a huge trap. Older golfers can't hit a 9 iron from 150 yards so they can stop the ball on the green. Also, greens are way too slow - if I putted on my home course the way I had to on this course, the ball would be half way down the fairway.
Our favorite country club restaurant. A wide variety of menu selections. All that we have tried were to our liking. Service is good, prices are reasonable.
We especially love Thursday which is Irish night at the restaurant. They have an excellent lamb shank and also, corned beef and cabbage. Service is generally very good.
The tuna melt is made daily from ahi tuna, not canned. It makes the most delicious sandwich. The fries are always hot and so tasty. I've not had a bad meal at Cane Garden. The wait staff is always friendly and efficient which considering how busy they get is amazing. If y can get there early you may not have to wait for a table.
Certain items on the menu are very good. The atmosphere is good, but noisy. The service is a bit mediocre. Most country clubs have a dress code, this one apparantly does not...... Men in the dining room wearing tank tops or collarless shirts, hostess wearing well-worn jeans, etc.The decor needs to be refreshed.I would not recommend Cane Garden Country Club.
