This was our first time at Reelfoot Lake State Park campground. We stayed from 7/15/22014-7/20/2014. We have a 36 ft. Class A motor home and were able to reserve a site (#19) right on the lake. The campground is very large with over 350 sites. The only complaint about our site would be it was short. The campground is flat which made it nice for walking. The showers and restrooms were kept clean. They had presentation on birds of prey while we were there. We got some great sunset pictures.
We return to Reelfoot for a week each year along with 2 other couples. There is no other place that provides more peace and quiet and beauty. Local restaurants provide filling and delicious meals at a reasonable price. You must take the tour boat and see the hidden spots along the lake. This is not a place where you will find lots to entertain you. It is a perfect place to get away from all your life's problems and enjoy spending time with those who are sharing the trip with you.
My friends and I stopped here on our way back to Chicago. There are many areas off the main road where you can park and walk out on a dock to fish or view the lake. There are also picnic areas and places for the kids to play. I'm excited to go back during the winter months and maybe take one of the boat tours to see where the eagles nest. Overall, this was a good experience.
Did a quick afternoon trip with our daughters, ages 6 & 7, to the visitor center. Very nice display of animals including bald eagles, hawk, owls, many snakes. Museum is nice but didn't spend much time inside. Nature boardwalk though the water was neat with more wildlife seen. Very shady area even on a hot sunny day. Many parks and fishing spots nearby if desired.
Beautiful fishing only lake. Overnight accommodations are expensive for families. Local restaurants food good southern cooking fair prices. Hiking trails and fishing piers located around lake. Enjoyed the sunsets.
We took a 2 hour drive to Reelfoot Lake to do a little photography and walk some trails. A lot of things have changed since we visited it as children. The boardwalk through the marshy area was a nice walk to take and we saw water snakes, herons, ducks, turtles and fish. There is a nice visitor center where you can handle live snakes (we didn't) and learn about the history of the area including the lake's formation by the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812. There is a seismometer there as well. This was a nice way to spend an afternoon. There are restaurants right across the street.
We were in the area for a couple of days to fish. The park was a great stop. We were there during the off season so many activities were not in operation. The staff was super friendly and the boardwalk was a pretty walk.
We live about 1.5 hours away, and figured this would be a good first trip in our motorhome. The spots, are level, paved, and very clean. most of the water front spots have 50amp service. All the sites have picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. The bath houses are very clean. This is a must see and must return state park.
Our photography club took a field trip to Reelfoot Lake State Park last weekend. We booked a lake tour on a pontoon boat. It was a truly great tour. Our guide/boat pilot was very knowledgeable about the lake, the wildlife and the flora and fauna around it. She knew the places to take us for some really awesome photo opportunities and slowed to let us take advantage of those photo ops. After the tour we were able to witness and photograph the release of an egret back into the wild, then our guide brought out a baby screech owl and a red-tailed hawk for us to photograph. Finally she let us go inside the eagle enclosure and get some very close photos of an adult eagle and a juvenile eagle. Everyone was so pleased with our outing.
We did not see the eagles but may be back this winter when more are in the area. We have photographed the eagles here before.
