Very good reproduction of the house from one of the best cirurgion in the history! You have there all the tools he used in that time etc.. If you come to Vinnitsa recomend you to visit!
Well kept grounds and building. As far as authenticity in the museum, apart from the medical instruments, very little is original. The guided tour (only in russian) is long winded and almost "propaganda-ish" in its telling. Be aware the guide will tell you off if you wander into the next room too early!!! lol!!
Worth walk around definitely but only if you speak Ukrainian or have someone that can translate for you. The tour is done only in Ukrainian so if you dont understand it will get no benefit from the tours. Beautiful gardens and property
Fascinating place. We went there with our group and the guide was also magnificent. Her English was very fluent. Actually the man who lived in that house is great doctor. He added a lot of informations to science. He is famous all of the world. His body is ground floor of the church which is 1 km away this place. You should see his body. It's mummy and also he invented the technique which is used to mummy people's bodies.
The museum of one of the most famous doctors in the world - Pirogov. He was the first surgeon to use anaesthesia in a field operation (1847), invented various kinds of surgical operations, and developed his own technique of using plaster casts to treat fractured bones. The museum is located in the Vinnytsya city in the park area, and enclude the building where he spent his life. His body is preserved using embalming techniques he himself developed, and rests in a church in Vinnitsa, Ukraine. Compared to the corpse of Lenin, which undergoes thorough maintenance in a special underground clinic twice a week, the body of Pirogov rests untouched and unchanging: it is said that only dust has to be brushed off of it. It resides at room temperature in a glass-lid coffin (while Lenin's body is preserved at a constant low temperature).
The estate is well kept though there’s practically no authentic furniture (but in Pirogov’s study). Some aged moulding, parquet and wallpapers still preserved. Pirogov’s surgical instruments are of great interest (there are plenty of them). Choose a workday for visiting as there are too many tourists on holidays.
