I had often been by the signs for this place but never stopped in. It was well worth the trip. If you can get in on a tour, then it is even better.
I have to say my opinion is a bit biased since I work on this area. As the person who gets a lot of phone calls about Grand Bay, I thought I would provide some updated information on the area. Our main attractions on the area are the boardwalk and tower, a 3 mile hiking/biking trail, yr-round fishing, and hunting in season. Currently the canoe trails are impassable but we have plans to work on those soon. And yes, this is a user fee area. 3-day and annual passes are available at our website - www.georgiawildlife.com/licenses-permits-passes, or by calling 1-800-366-2661. And this applies to all users of the area, unless you have a hunting or fishing license that will cover you. The boardwalk/ed center area is typically closed Monday-Thursday during the school year for use by school groups, with summer break late May to Sept., and during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The 3 mile trail follows roads on the area, and they are not routinely mowed, but are great for hiking/biking. Some things to remember: 1) you should read and follow all information signs on the area 2) dogs must be on a leash 3) do not feed any wildlife 4) best wildlife viewing times are early morning and late evening 5) hiking trail is closed during firearms deer hunts in the fall
While it was a little to warm we had a great time. We seen a alligator bunch of lizards a snake !!! It was great outing and will be back with the other grandkids BUT when it's not as hot
Great place to hunt and get away. I have hunted there several times over the years and have always had good luck. In fact Georgia offers many locations across the state that are equal or better. Gates don't always stay open so be carefull
Hidden Gem, very quite & peaceful, beautiful. loved it. About a 15 min drive from the hotel but well worth it.
This is a great place to bring people to give them a taste of Georgia. The fishing and hunting ain't bad and there are some great photo opportunities as well. This is a user fee area so make sure you have a Georgia outdoor pass or equivalent. If you have the sportsman or wma on your license you are good to go.
I love coming here. It's usually pretty quiet and you can get a really good view from the tower. I highly recommend a visit and a stroll down the boardwalk if you are in town.
Wonderful back to nature experience not far from town. There is a boardwalk that goes out to a tower. You may see alligators, birds, bugs, flowers, etc. Just a nice way to reconnect with nature.
While it can be pretty, and you can see alligators, lizards, bugs and water birds as well as lovely plants and trees, it's a long meandering walk on a boardwalk to a fire tower. The potentially interesting center and animal info is closed to the public so unless you are a school kid... one brief visit and you've done all there is to do, and seen all there is to see.
Want to get away, see some gators, and enjoy an actual swamp by all means of the Word?? Look no further! Beautiful (and safe) boardwalk with a great tower to climb and every once in a while you can get a low flyover from the local Moody Air Force Base!
