I prefer this zoo as I have small children. You have close access to all the animals and can feed a lot of them too.
A very good variety of animals, such as mountain lions, grizzly bears, tigers, otters, eagles and monkeys.
I loved how close you could get to the animals. They have a white bengal tiger which was the whole reason why I decided to go a little out of my way to go there. My 2 yr old absolutely loved being able to pet the sheep and going by the turtles. They have a little petting zoo within the zoo but they were feeding the animals so I didnt want to bother them. I want to go back. Next time I'll probably make a day or 2 of it since there is a small campground, a pool, and a playground. We rode the carousel even though I was a bit hesitant since it was a little extra but my son loved it so it was worth it.
We visit the zoo a few times every summer. It is better than many zoos in larger cities. It is beautiful and clean and has a wide variety of animals. It also has many interperative learning stations. The zoo staff go out of their way to make your visit memorable. The zoo is impressive and a must see.
This was a lovely little zoo! I was pleasantly surprised by it. Beautiful scenery, nice animal enclosures, great variety of animals for a small town. This is a definite must if you have time passing by Wahpeton, ND. The only thing that bothered me was the restrooms. I visited during a weekday by myself. There were a few other visitors but we never crossed paths. The restrooms are at the back of the gift shop and are very creepy and scary to use alone on a quiet day.
We always take our Grandkids to Chahinkapa Zoo! They love to watch the Otters swim. The monkey's are a big hit too. Have quarters along so you can buy corn to feed the ducks. Last summer we spent 30 min. watching the bears run around and jump into their pool.
I've talked to many people that come down to Wahpeton to take in the Zoo and park with their kids. It has competition with the Fargo zoo, but I think they're both worth taking in.
great place for young and old. clean and animals well cared for. Big zoo for a small town. Terrific park with lots to do and see.
we are regulars at the zoo during the summertime and early fall. the children love to see the animals. we usually go see santa when he comes as well. they also love the carousel. the bathrooms in the zoo could be cleaner, we make sure we go before leaving the house.
I went here with my 2 and 7 year old while visiting my parents and sister. We are members of the Cincinnati Zoo. We love checking out all the different zoos. This was one of my favorite small zoo we have been to! It was perfect for young kids. My kids especially loved feeding all the ducks and being able to pet the baby sheep and the tortoises! The monkeys were very entertaining. The price is very affordable and everything is very family friendly and clean as well. My only complaint was all the mosquitoes, but growing up in North Dakota, I know it is just what comes with a summer day =)
