This off the beaten path little museum, is kind of a jewel. The collection is a motley crew of artifacts, but it all hangs together. It has been put together lovingly. The road to the museum gets you through beautiful countryside. Ask for the story of the chair with short legs! Well worth the side trip.

After driving from Puerto Varas to Nueva Braunau, a small rural town, and following the road out of the village, in the middle of nowhere on the left side of the road we found a big brown builidng with inscription MUSEO. The sign on the roadside is also well visible, there ia gravel path between high trees leading towards the entrance. The fee is about 5 dollars, well worth to admire the incredible exhibition of articles of the German colonists arrived mid 19th century to the region. We were lucky to get a guided tour by Pedro Felmer, son of the founder of this museum, Antonio Felmer Nikitschek. The tour starts with the photo exhibition of the founding families of the sorrounding region and goes on with incredibly well preserved and extremely varied articles of homes, agriculture and house-keeping, collected through decades from the attics of old families. The exhibition leads to a first floor, where also carriages of 150 years ago are found, they were lifted in pieces and assembled in situ. There is also a bar, whwre you can get drinks, coffee and typical local cake (kuchen). If you are in the region, visit this place by all means, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Un lugar simplemente fantástico y encantador. El museo, está muy bien implementado y mantenido, muy cálida atención de sus dueños. Su entorno, en medio de la naturaleza y mucha tranquilidad, además los niños, se divirtierón muchísimo con el canoppy.Si quieren un buen panorama con niños, vayan por que pueden finalizar su recorrido con un rico kuchen, en la cafetería del museo.Un gran aporte a la historia del pueblo.Felicitaciones!!

Visiting here was a welcome diversion on a rainy day! We weren't confident we would find it as the details in other reviews and on the website were not foolproof, but turns out it was pretty easy – head west out of Puerto Varas on the V50 highway; cross over the 5 highway and stay on V50 passing through the village of Nueva Braunau, and the Museo is just outside the town on the left-hand side, visible from the road. We had a personal guided tour (English/Spanish/German available) from the museum guide who was knowledgable and had plenty of fun and interesting stories about how the various farming and household machines were used.

REally a good overview of what it must have been like living in Chile many years ago. The man who was showing off all the farm equipment was obviously quite proud of his museum and made it a special place for us.

The Museum is a delight for all the history and culture fascinated people! The owner was kind enough to explain things in English sometimes and everything in the museum has a description written in English which makes it easy for us " 0 Spanish speaking" people. It's a must visit!!

I have just read in trip advisor what should be good places to visit in Puerto Varas. Taking his recomendation I took a half day tour with a taxi and visited this place. What a good surprise !. The road to reach there is beautiful and place of museum is marvelous. The museum content also is exciting. they have everything used by the first germany people that lived there. Don´t loose.

We went on the recommendations of previous TA reviewers and it was definitely worth the visit. Follow the V50 from Puerto Varas to Nueva Brenau, then about 500m beyond the end of the town, turn sharp left. There is a huge sign on the edge of the road saying Museo which you can't miss. The family museum has been in the same family since around 1860 and is filled with their farm and house tools, kitchen equipment etc. The current generation (we had the son of the creator of the museum who was able to speak a bit of English) maintains the dairy farm in conjunction with the museum. They were from Austria, not German as previously stated, and their deprivations at beginning a life from scratch was inspiring to see what they did and how they made everything they needed including wooden screws made from scratch. Definitely worth a visit and the barn and adjoining houses were very attractive, in pleasant grounds. The museum is over two floors but the entry (lower) floor is wheelchair accessible but there is no lift to the second floor.

Our visit was far better than expected. Their collosal collection of items strange and ordinary in the lives of German immigrants in Chile was very interesting. The grounds and flora are very attractive too.

This place is perfect, not only do they have the most incredible things that were used over a hundred years ago, pero they are also 100% functional! Also the tourguides are great and very knowledgeable, which makes this a great place to visit.
