What a great historical site! I really, really enjoyed this attraction. It's not a lot of walking but a smig but so enjoyable. Loved seeing the house and secret service shed, staff quarters, etc. I bought the movie DVD, Warm Springs with Cynthia Nixon, it was very good. The book store was excellent. The little town was very, very nice. I enjoyed the gift shops and the shop up the hill from the wax museum was good, it's behind the restaurant. We did not visit the wax museum. Not enough time. The hotel down town was interesting and the train stop is still the same. You will enjoy this historical site...
Okay so this is a state park first and foremost. It features indescribable beauty in the fall with plenty of birds-eye views, that shows just how awesome God's paintbrush can be! The park itself has plenty of hiking trails and camping along those trails. The highlight of the park though is the site known as Dowdell's Knob. This area was so well liked and beautiful that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt frequently went there to admire and reflect on current events. It is the perfect spot to propose as it is the highest spot in Pine Mountain. I myself, used this site to propose then renew our vows 10 years later. If you go in late October or early November expect to need to wear a light jacket. Afterwards, head to Warm Springs where there plenty of shops, and a nice ice cream parlor that not only sells ice cream, but also hot cocoa, and hot apple cider as well as cold beverages. There is a nominal parking fee of $ 3.00.
Only one complaint. I have never had to buy a parking pass on top of site fees. The staff we're welcoming and very friendly.
this place was peaceful, lts a nice area to walk, the movie is informative, medical scooters available on first come basis, the people were very helpful to answer questions
We visited the park because we were staying in Warm Springs for the weekend. Next time the trip will be to stay at the park. We used several of the facilities on our way around, rode horses from the Roosevelt Stables, and enjoyed the wonderful view of the valley from Dowell 's Knot. This is a wonderful and everybody we encountered was friendly, courteous and seems to be enjoying themselves. This is a wonderful stewardship of nature.
If you drive between Warm Springs and Callaway Gardens you can take the road thru FDR State Park. It is a nice drive and has beautiful views of the area.
Nice, clean park with some awesome trails. Enjoyed the hike and stayed right inside of FDR in a cabin built 80 years ago. Lots of history and the views are terrific. Visit your local Georgia library to get a parking pass, good for 7 days.
We enjoyed stopping at several look-out spots to enjoy the view of the valleys below. My favorite spot was the barbeque pit where FDR frequented and sitting next to his bronze statue on the park bench.
We were going to attempt a first cold weather camping trip on a whim after Christmas. I booked a campsite for two nights at the park 5 days before leaving. Of course everything went wrong in those 5 days so by the time we made it to F. D. Roosevelt to check in we'd missed a night already and the weather was turning colder and wetter by the minute. We would either be turning for home or sleeping in the SUV. But the staff were so wonderful, fit us into a cabin for the one night and even worked with my budget since I'd paid for the campsite we weren't using. The cabin was simple and I really can't say whether it was resort or primitive because I was just so grateful to rest there, enjoy the mist and fog hanging over the lake and my kids playing up and down the yard area. It's a beautiful park that we'll be back to explore in better weather more. Recuperating from holiday madness in one of the cabins may even be budgeted for and looked forward to for years to come!
Waterfalls, views, well-maintained state park with 25+ miles of hiking trails. Pick up a trail map at the State Lodging facility and plan your route. Overnight campsites and lodging available for longer stays. Be sure to take your camera along for some beautiful views! Enjoy!!
