The building is an odd mix of influences that somehow work together to make a aesthetically pleasant building. For me, a big part of the appeal is the influence of the design architects personal (relationship) issues and how he ensured they were incorporated into the completed building. I have no doubt that the local folk lore have influenced the stories but they are entertaining and make for a unique and interesting building.
Nothing special here. There's a better mom/pop cafe on 77 a mile south of downtown, and Harris BBQ is quite good. Best in town is the Dove's Nest and there's a Chinese Buffet on 77. Otherwise, chains.
A walk around this historic courthouse is a must anytime you are in Waxahachie, Texas. Look for a brochure that tells the story of the faces carved in the stone. There are also quite a few antique stores around the courthouse square.
This courthouse was built / rebuilt several times and is one of the most photographed in TX. Beautiful granite / sandstone are prominent with various spheres on the roof toped by a huge clock.
Friendly welcome from the officers on duty, and courtrooms where you might expect to find Henry Fonda! Beautifully restored and maintained, this proved to be a gem of an architectural bravura performance.
This is a really old courthouse and everyone should drop by during the open hours and walk thru it Be sure to walk around and look at the faces on the corners of it Do a search and read about them it is a very interesting read about why they are there
5 stars. It is worth your trip to Waxahachie to see this courthouse. It was restored to its original grandeur about ten years ago. It has a unique story behind it too. Come and see!
The Courthouse sits in the center of downtown Waxahachie. Hundreds of years of history lie in the inside and outside of the courthouse. If you come to town for an event, take the time to walk around and check out the place!
On the way from Austin to Forth Woth we saw this little town on the map so we decided to stop and we gald we did it. There are some interesting buildings around the town square and this one is an eye-catcher as because it's red and in the middle of the town square. We didn't go inside as it was on sunday so we walked around the builing and enjoy the beauty of the architectur outside for free
This Courthouse would be a great stop if you are in the Dallas area. An easy detour off of Interstate 35, in the center of the square in Waxahachie, it has been marvelously restored. You are free to roam around all the floors and even in the main courtroom. Walking around the courthouse and listening to the trains passing in the background really takes you back in time.
