I have visited the museum on several occasions, it's great to see the old place being kept alive in such a great way, it's a shame the staff arnt more helpful , but never mind the museum is well worth a visit.
It is a small museum for aviation enthusiasts looks nice. There is a history behind the scenes and has to do with the recent history of European Aviation.
I visited the museum which is on the site of what once was RAF Laarbruch where I was stationed during the 70s. A lot of time and effort has been put into the museum and it was a great trip down memory lane. Its a great place to visit especially if you were ever stationed at Laarbruch, but even if you weren't It would still be of interest.Well done to everyone who has helped put the museum together and a big thankyou to the lady who was on duty the day we visited and to Al, for guiding us around Laarbruch aboard the tractor Limo, (see my review of "Kevins Pub" in Weeze for more details) Unfortunatly, but not surprisingly there was no mention of "10 Field Squadron Royal Engineers", who were an integral part of the set up when Laarbruch was operational, but one of our number kindly donated a couple of pieces of memorabilia, so as to make our presence felt once again!
Small museum packed with some fabulous displays and very friendly and informative volunteers.
An excellent little museum showing the history of RAF Laarbruch with an entrance fee of only 2 Euros
Very informative and friendly staff who have put a great deal into this venture. Gave us all the info on how the Base has changed over the years since we were there serving as MT Drivers in the RAF Regiment way back in 1956/57. I think that they were very pleased with our contribution of our '50's photos. keep up the good work. Great stuff brings a lump to your throat! 1956/57 ROD & KEN
Excellent display relating to the RAF Station 1952 - 1999. Lots of interesting displays and aircraft fuselages.
We went to this museum in August 2009 with extended family to 'revisit' times gone by.The Royal Air Force Museum Laarbruch Weeze is a military museum based on the site of Weeze Airport (near Düsseldorf), which was previously the Royal Air Force airfield known as RAF Laarbruch. It was set up by the local German community as a way of keeping the ties between the British and Germans which had developed in the 50 or so post war years.Weeze has now been turned into an up and coming modern civil airport, with Ryanair flights from several UK airports and the museum can be found in what was originally the airbase's church, just off the service road going into and out of the airport. If you have connections with the RAF bases of north Germany or of RAF Laarbruch in particular, as we did, the museum provides a great way to re-live old memories. Or if you're just interested in military history, there are some interesting RAF exhibits – from old uniforms to ejector seats. We were lucky to be shown around by a very friendly ex-RAF officer, who was extremely helpful, informative and interested in exchanging old stories. There are photos and exhibits from the very early days of airfield construction in the fifties to the days of the Iraq War. The displays are extremely well presented and documented, a tribute to those involved in setting it up. Really interesting and well worth a visit.
The Museum brought back some wonderful memories of RAF Laarbruch, as it was. Although small and compact the detail and memorabilia is immense. The staff (volunteers) were friendly and welcoming and do the Station proud in keeping the memory alive. Well worth the visit!
Situated in the former church next to the Globe Cinema.Well worth a visit, some really interesting artefacts on display. The museum staff were very knowledgeable and extremely helpful and friendly. The museum reflects the role of RAF Laabruch, and also the close ties they had with the local Germany community.
