This avenue closes on sundays for walking and bike riding and some green areas become places for gathering for children and art exhibitions.
This avenue has 130 years of living history. There are a lot of monuments, gardens, historical buldings, all examples of architecture, etc. It is fully appreciated if you get information of its hystory. Sunday mornings are best to be walked, since it becomes a walking avenue. Lots of restaurants for eat and rest along the way. You can park your car at any Mall or Hotel on its suroundings.
Closed to traffic it is nice to visit Avenida Reforma on a Sunday morning. There's a program wich promotes the use of this avenue along with Avenida Las Americas to excersise and have a Sunday family day... You'll find different activities.
The Avenida La Reforma is certainly a main drag for Guatemala City and as such, is very very busy. There are nice sculptures and memorials in the median along the route, modern business buildings, some shopping, and hotels. But, it is very congested! Traffic is very slow at peak periods. I attempted an afternoon walk for many city blocks along the avenue - my lesson: it is not only not pedestrian-friendly, but it is "anti-pedestrian!" You can get stuck in places, especially near the armory, with little opportunity to cross. So walk only on the designated Sunday traffic-free day!
Interesting Street, good walking, statues, park, embassies, stores and restaurants! Just mind they traffic...
Close to all the major hotels, Avenida La Reforma is a great place for a daytime stroll or a jog along it's pedestrian path. Your worries about Guatemala City's reputation as a dangerous and/or unpleasant city will be squashed after a few minutes on this street.
While staying at the Barcelo on our way back from Antigua we had time to kill early Sunday morning before our flight home so we decided to take a walk down Reforma to see the Israeli monument. We soon noticed that the entire avenue was closed to street traffic and we were joined by some runners, walkers, and families with young children on bikes and skates. Before we knew it the running crowd grew and we realized that a race was being held on the street. Even in the early hours (8am) the entire avenue was lined with pleasant civil service/ police attendants every block or so, making this a very safe place to enjoy the city like a local.
nice avenue to drive down well maintained and gets you were you need to go in the city. near american embassy and nice hotels
Beautiful road wit Bike lanes down the middle. A lot of beautiful statues and well worth a visit if not for anything but to rest.
Avenida La Reforma is a nice place to visit and to walk. During the day is secured and not so much at night. You might do the whole walk in one hour. There are plenty of restaurants, stores, places to visit during the walk. Normally on Sundays the road will be blocked for vehicles and then is packed with pedestrians and their dogs, and their friends, and their families.
