The tour through the university courtyards and church made for a pleasant hour or so. I wouldn't say that's it's a "must-see," but if you have some spare time it's worth a visit.
A collection of courtyards in the centre of the old town. St John's Church and courtyard is lovely, the former façade made up of a cluster of columns. Small fee (5 litas) to enter the university.
Nowadays most of the universities are ultramodern buildings. Nice that the old, historical building is still used as university.
We walked by through the University patios. It is a quiet place full of architecture to see. Our guide gave us a quick tour.
Pleasant enough walk around the courtyards but not really a standout. Murals are interesting. bookshop was closed when we were there sadly.
Unfortunately, the book store is closed for renovations so we could not see the building's frescoes. The courtyards are lovely, and the library ceiling is beautiful. Worth the look if the weather is nice.
This is definitely worth a visit. It is the only way to get to see St John's church which is wonderful in itself. it was very quiet there and for the most part we had the place to ourself. not many tourist there. The ticket office will give you a map. Besure to visit the frescoes in the bookshop and in the room above it.
The University complex is a series of buildings arranged around courtyards, right in the middle of the Old town. It has a number of architectural and historical features including a magnificent church and bell tower. It's also worth visiting the bookshop to see its painted ceilings. Overall, It is well worth the small amount it costs for entry. We went during term time and the campus was lively with students and academics, all of whom were welcoming and friendly.
A tour around the university with its hidden courtyards, graceful old buildings and some outstanding modern wall murals is worth the time and small expense. There is also a small but quite good bookstore with guide and art books in many languages.
I was quite impressed by the architecture, though I think I got lost and actually somehow missed parts of the campus. Regardless, the guy let me in for free so I can't complain about that one!
