In my opinion the Mayborn is a childrens museum first and foremost. If you visit without kids it's pretty dull and generic. The curiosities exhibit was interesting since we tried to guess what the things were since there were no labels. We left after only thirty minutes having seen the whole exhibit feeling disappointed but then again we had no kids with us.
We discovered this museum on a family reunion weekend and we were very pleasantly surprised. The kids loved it and so did the adults! Lots to see and hands on fun too! Will definitely go back.
Among the very best children's museums visited. Geared for all ages, all interests. Reasonably priced; coupon available from internet or visitor's center.Would recommend a full day visit, with a break for lunch.
The magic school bus exhibit was a lot of fun for my daughter and nieces. It was a free day and very crowded but we enjoyed it.
My granddaughters really enjoy the museum. Enjoy the special exhibits, such as the trains, dinosaurs, etc., along with the animal, etc exhibits, but are so excited to go upstairs chatting & trying which room to go to first! Often the bubble room or music room are first. The tea party room is always a hit. Of course the turtles, fish, etc. are a hit . They really enjoy the neighborhood area, driving the cars, grocery shopping, cooking, working in the garden!! Of course the gift shop is a hit too! Now they have visited the village too & were thrilled with the costumes & demonstrations!! I really encourage everyone to visit. You will be impressed with the all the exhibits! Such a great place for families to make memories. I know this has been special for mine!
I visted the Mayborn Museum with my sister-in-law, my nearly two year old, three year old nieces and my nine year old nephew and boy did we have fun! We spent three hours touring the museum with the little kids and the big kids (some of my friends who are in their twenties came along) and we all agreed we had lots of fun! We tried on costumes, snapped pictures in a cave, walked through a large replica of a human heart, played music and laughed! You'll have fun when you visit this interesting museum, it's like no other!
This museum has something for everyone! There is so much to see, learn, and do during your visit. Allow at least 2 hrs minimum to explore if possible. Don't forget the historic village out back. A great time will be had by all!
Superb place with history, science, math and many other subjects with activites for kids of all ages.
We enjoyed the displays and learning about the history of the area. We felt that it would be more consumer friendly if items displayed had information labels instead of calling a phone number to listen to long winded guide. The interactive screen that one needed to use to figure out what was in the tall cases was no fun at all. The historical village was interesting to visit. The Mammoth Site replica was great but we really enjoyed the actual Mammoth Site outside town.
The museum is small and I had to remind myself it is part of Baylor and not a stand alone. The exhibits (especially the mammoth exhibit) were very well done and interesting. Great place to visit with the kids. We enjoyed the historic western town but wished it was not a static display. More interactivity would enlarge the experience.
