While this museum's displays are old school, there is really a lot really cool historic artifacts on display. Especially neat is the upper floor where Union prisoners were kept in order to keep their forces from firing on the courthouse during the siege. Take an hour and learn something about Vicksburg from a southern perspective rather than the Unionist perspective of the National Military Park.
The courthouse, built before the War Between The States, stands on a hill, dominating Vicksburg's skyline. It is now a museum, and one which is very well done.
Only $5 per person to visit this great museum with a great gift shop with authentic relics. This museum is located in a beautiful building that was built by skilled slave labor. Definitely for the history buff and worth the time!
We thoroughly enjoyed this museum. It was well thought out and laid out. The artifacts were plentiful and everything was clean. Well done!
My husband and I have been travelling the country the last two years and I have to say this was one of my favorite museums. It's beautifully preserved and it's packed full of civil war relics and antiques. They have a gift shop where you can buy some of the civil war relics and artwork. The court room is just beautiful. The whole architecture of the building is memorizing. I could picture being there in the 1800's. It's definitely worth much more than the $5 it cost to get in. Also the people that work there are not your typical stuffy old museum workers, they are very friendly and really take pride in their Court House Museum.
This is a great sight to see, clean and neat, informative and very picturesque. The view is breathtaking, We took lots of pictures and and a real nice time. We will come back.
We love museums and this was all encompassing for the time period of the Civil War. Its displays complimented what we saw at the military park - housing, clothing, ammunition, flags, photos, etc. It's beautifully set up - wrought iron stairs and railing, wooden floors - and easy to get around in. Staff is very helpful; another 'don't miss' when you're in Vicksburg.
this is a very nice museum, taking up two floors of a historic building, including an original courtroom. a large variety of interesting exhibits, and friendly people who are happy to answer any question you may have. very reasonable entrance fee, and donations accepted.
The grounds around the Courthouse are beautiful and we enjoyed all the rooms and information. Lots to see and you could spend hours there.
Loved visiting the courthouse. The different displays, from the courtroom itself, to rooms with attire people wore then , to a library, etc.
