There is nothing to dislike, a church is a church. It is a nice one, old and has good accustics, it is worth to visit a consert almost every weekend there are some.
I had never heard of Västerås before, but was really amazed by the cathedral. The oldest part is 12th century, and there are many treasures there - they have 7 carved wood altarpieces, renaissance or medieval, and a strange 17th century carved font. Lots to see.
Entering this church is at least as amazing as visiting a large gothic cathedral on the continent. It looks larger inside than from the outside thanks to the impressive white brick columns, rather bright interior, and the high ceiling. Its otherwise simple interior may be misleading, since some of the objects are very unique and of an high historic value. Take one of the leaflets at the entrance to help you find your way.
Big and beautiful. It is so nice to sit and listen to music. Very colourful and beatiful windows. It is in the heart of the city.
it is just behind the city Square and Elite Hotel, so you cannot miss it. It is tall and grand building with glory in the history. It is a pity that Chinese Tourists normally do not come into it, since they have seen more churches in Stockholm.
Wow not what I expected at all. We were taken around by friend who are locals. They gave us the history of King Erik and the grave and King Gustav the father. Very friendly and didn't rush us at all even though they were clearly getting ready for a funeral. The cathedral is obviously well cared for but we were not asked for donations and there was NO box for any either. We asked about the two organs and were told that many famous organists come from all over Europe to play the older one.
Spending a week in Vasteras we came across the Cathedral in the city centre. It is located in a gorgeous area where there are a lot of old buildings and cottages in well kept condition in cobbled lanes. Mass was on when we went in (11am Sunday) and they asked my 5 year old to go to Sunday school which she did and thoroughly enjoyed. We explained she couldn't speak Swedish so they also spoke English to her. The choir singing was fabulous. The building itself was lovely but we couldn't have a real poke around as mass was on - we will definitely be going back during the week to have a guided tour.
