Camped here in late September. Camp sites are spaced far enough apart to offer a little privacy. Facilities are well maintained and clean. Short walk to the gorgeous sandy beach.
First, keep in mind this is not the pace to go on a weekend if you are after peace and solitude, this place gets busy, especially on summer weekends. The positive is you really are close to the beach and ocean. We were initially looking for a campsite right next to the beach, spots numbered in the 200's. Thank goodness these were all reserved. We were going with two other couples and were looking for 3 spots together. The campground numbered in the 200's did not look enjoyable. Packed with people and little to no privacy between campsites. I mean my anxiety meter reached high levels and I am only in my 40's. Twin Harbors has a second campground numbered in the 100's. Day and night difference! Although you are packed in and many are not as private as others there are plenty that provide nice privacy once your camp is set up. We were in spots 107, 109 and 111. Great spots, 109 and 111 have great shade but on the downside are right next to a two lane highway that can get loud. Sleeping at night it quiets down nicely but starting early in the morning chances are you will awake to the sound of cars and crows, even after many beer the night before. The Mosquitos are also pretty aggressive. Bring your Burt's bug spray. The walk to the beach is simple and maybe 5 to 8 minutes. You cross the highway in marked crosswalks and every time if there were cars they would stop for us. Nice trail through the forest, through the nice grass dunes onto a great beach and beautiful ocean. There are also a couple of access roads where you can drive on the beach. The State Park is kept nice and all the Rangers and employees we encountered were friendly. The campsites appear to be cleaned after each use and are nice. There are bathrooms that are kept moderately clean and toilet paper provided. :-) There are showers available but tokens are required. You can purchase them from the Ranger station. The stars at night were amazing and it's great to be able to sit around an open fire. All in all Twin Harbors was a fine place and kid friendly.
Check out the weather before coming out here as we had lots of marine fog which made it too cold to get into the water. Some partiers from the the night before left their empty beer cans behind which wasn't too nice too see. Pick up your trash. Saw tire tracks on beach but all the roads I saw to the beach were closed.
Yes, we went to the coast in the winter. The only people out there were a few surfers. It was perfect. Such a great spot.
Not crowded, great place to find agates, shells, sand dollars, etc.Great place to walk, run or just play in the sand or in the surf.
We booked a site here last minute and were only able to reserve a spot on the east side of the park. I am glad we did! The sites were wooded and private contrasted with the sites closer to the ocean which are all out in the open and right on top of each other. Supposedly in the wetter months there is an issue with drainage for many of the sites on the east side but in mid July it was just fine. I am glad we brought bug repellant, the natural stuff worked fine. There is only one small grocery store in Grayland so be prepared. They had meat, dairy and produce along with the best price for wood and kindling. The best site in my opinion was 147. 148 was the second best. After those two I would pick 127. The lighthouse tour was fun and there are many points in Grayland where you can drive out onto the beach. The trail to the beach from the campground is quick. A 5 minute stroll through a pretty forest and dunes from the east sites.
We do an annual family tent camping trip and this was our first visit to Twin Harbors Beach State Park. A beautiful park, with an easy trail walk to a beautiful Pacific Ocean beach. The sites were wooded and except for the separate RV area, most were quite nicely separated from neighboring sites. Hot showers for a small fee, nice and helpful rangers. Gas station/general store within walking distance. Nights were chilly and early mornings tended to be foggy so warmer gear was much appreciated at those times. We liked this state park a lot!
We sat in our car and watched the waves and fishermen. It was nice and beautiful. The sun was setting behind a storm, just a pleasant park.
We spent a night here with friends and we reserved both yurts. I had never stayed in a yurt before and it was fun. The 2 yurts are next to each other and close to the bathrooms/shower. Both yurts were very clean and honestly, they smelled like spic & span, so we had to air them out a bit. This didn't bother us, we were happy they were clean! We were less than a 10 minute walk to the ocean. The beach was very pretty. Even though it was July, it was cool and very windy. We were able to have a fire at our campsites which was really nice and were able to buy some firewood at the check-in station. The yurts have electricity and 1 overhead light inside. They also have heaters. Even in July we had the heater on all night and it was very toasty and warm inside. The yurts don't come with bedding so you need to bring your own blankets and pillows. This was a really fun experience and our kids had a great time running around.
Camp spots are very nice and most are private, beach is beautiful! Great place for beach combing and driving on the beach!!!
