My father and I spent a day on the Pacific with Captain Paul and his deckhand, Bryce, aboard the Pescatore. It was a Father's Day gift to me and we were very excited to get out and start catching some big fish.Told to check in at their Westport, WA, headquarters by 6am, we arrived a few minutes past six. Our charter host was very friendly and assisted us with registration and purchasing of the one-day licenses in order to get us out to the boat as quickly as possible. We were last to board the Pescatore and found 16 other people already aboard...a good-sized crowd, but it didn't feel crowded. After a required safety briefing from our captain, we shoved off and headed out to sea. It was about an hour and a half before we were to reach the fishing grounds, so we took advantage of many wildlife viewing opportunities that presented themselves to us on that grey, misty, western Washington day.Although we spotted no whales on our journey, there were several dozen dolphins and porpoises that made appearances, along with a few sea lions, otters and a countless number of sea birds. While traveling to the first spot, Bryce was busy baiting everyone's hooks and prepping the lines. By the time we got there, it was mere seconds before Paul told us what to do and we had lines in the water. After a few dry spots, we started getting hit after hit after hit of sea bass (black rockfish). They're a fun fish to catch, and tasty too! Paul and Bryce were always there to take a fish off the line and rebait it in seconds so you could get back in the water as fast as possible. They showed a great amount of hustle and it made for a great trip for all.Over the course of the day, the boat caught its limit of rockfish and started fishing for ling cod. After about an hour with no bites, however, we abandoned the effort and headed back to Westport. On the way back, Bryce cleaned and filleted our 168 sea bass (all while the boat is bouncing over six-foot swells) so that we could simply walk off the boat with a smile when we were finished. A young kid, Bryce did a fantastic job and deserved every dime of the tips that flowed his direction as we took our fish and exited the boat. For the money, the Westport Charter fishing experience was definitely worth doing. In fact, Dad and I will probably be doing it again sometime.
This was my first time fishing on a charter. It was fantastic. Captain Steve and deck hand Jason really know their stuff. They explained everything clearly and had all the rods ready to go when we stopped to fish for salmon...They were always on hand to help out....Very attentive and professional...always a smile...and can Jason gut a fish!!!!!! He's been doing it since he was 14....And on our way home, Steve ;-) arranged for a few whales to show off....
Had a great day fishing, it was my first time out on a Charter and was a great experiance, the other women that were sick should have been out on deck instead of in cabin , was a bummer they got as much fish as us even though they hardly fished.
I have never been bottom fishing before so I was a bit skeptical, but I was blown away. I was fortunate to be on The Tornado as my charter and the crew was great. We maxed out on our fish and I even caught a few. I felt like a pro! These guys really know how to pick the fishing spots and you won't be disappointed. I have already planned another trip to come back for tuna fishing!!
This was my twelve year old daughters first time deep sea fishing and she can't wait to do it again!Captain Brian was awesome and his enthusiasm for fishing and being out on the ocean was obvious. He and the deckhands demonstrated a lot of skill and competence. We thoroughly enjoyed our day! Caught our limit of rockfish and I caught a nice lingcod as well. We were able to enjoy a leisurely ride on the bow of the boat as our fish were being filleted by the deckhands as we headed back to Westport. This was definitely a highlight of our summer vacation. Great family experience. My husband and daughter have this as a must do on our next trip to Washington!
Tons of fun!The deck hand and skipper took complete care of us! Baited the hook, untangled our lines, netted and filleted our fish! Spent all day on the water from 6am- 5pm They were very knowledgeable and helpful! The crew was a big help so your fishing 100% of the time rather than fussing with bait and line. If you've never done this, YOU NEED TO!
I was quite apprehensive about this fishing trip as the last trip I went on was terrible because the captain was always swearing at people. Steve and his son Jason, father and son, captain and deckhand were just amazing. Couldn't believe how much they moved around helping people
Had an absolute blast with buzz and jake as deck hands. Under captin Daves guidance we were able to catch over 115 fish with a 13 man team. And the swells made it even more fun for me personally. This company is great. Buzz is awesome as a deck hand and Captain Dave is a great Captain. Took out on the Discovery "54 foot boat" and she handled like a dream. Thank you I will be back for more!!!!
This was our first ever deep sea fishing trip. I got sick but still caught my limit. (I had an upset stomach before I got on board, the others that got sick were all hung-over) Tip don't drink the night before. My wife and I had a great time, I can still see the smile on my wife's face. We were on the Pescatori with Captain Paul and Dillon. Captain Paul is very enthusiastic and gungho about everybody catching fish. Both Paul and Dillon did an awesome job helping 16 people catch lots of fish, the rushed around netting our fish, baiting our lines, fixing tangles. At the end of the trip they cleaned and filitted our fish.We highly recommend the Pescatori with Captain Paul -- Westport Charters office staff were also very friendly. My wife was the only woman on the boat and everybody treated her respectfully and helped her have a great time. The only down side for my was that they allow smoking on the boat, but that is my issue not theirs.Tip get Bonnies for Motion sickness take some with dinner the night before and some with a very light breakfast. Don't be embarrased if you get sick, just take a short break drink lots of water. We were out for 6 hours and I took a about a 30 min break/nap after getting sick for the 3rd time, and then got up and caugh my limit of rock fish and a salmon. Tip the head (bathroom) is very very small. Throw up in the ocean not in the head.We will be doing this again.
