Wonderful display of electric trains, lots of unknownTexas history, Just a fascinating place to go and learn with the kids It's free except for donation box and staffed with wonderful knowledgeable volunteers. Just a special hidden treasure in downtown Wichita Falls, TX. Been twice now. The first time with hubby, the second with our 3 year old grandson who was thrilled with the electric trains!

We took some of our students to visit the museum. It was my first visit. I was amazed at what they had for us to view. I was also surprised about how many rooms they had. It's larger than it appears.

Great for Museum day, you get to learn about Wichita Falls history and those involved in the wars. Plus you learn the significance of Wichita Falls. I would not pay, but they offer a free museum ride each year around Aug to Sep, unless you are a history buff. Then you will want to pay for more insider events.

Wichita Falls, TX is a small city with not much to do. Even so, there is a special atmosphere that I believe the city doesn't take advantage or celebrate. There is so much history in this city; I can feel that energy every time I drive through the main part of the city. Fortunately, this museum is doing everything it can to display and preserve this rich history of Wichita Falls.The museum is small. In fact, an employee of the museum expressed to me that the museum rents the building for $1 a year. What I don't like about this museum is that I believe that this museum should be located in a bigger building. When I came to this museum, it is like the city is trying to hide this museum rather than showcasing it to the best degree. That's unfortunate because the history of this city is incredible when you visit this museum. The building doesn't do it justice for what the history of this museum has to offer. The best parts of the museum are the Cow Lot Hat exhibit and the military exhibit. Children who come to this museum should enjoy the hat exhibit. In this exhibit, the museum collected hats from one of the most famous stores the Cow Lot in Wichita Falls, which is now closed. That store has closed, but the legend still remains. As for the military exhibit, it is amazing! The different military aspects offer a vivid and attention grabbing display. For example, the warship display models are fantastically designed. I learned that they were all created by ONE sailor. This sailor would collect scrap metal, legos, or anything he could get hands to build these models. One of the problems I noticed was how this museum was surprisingly unorganized. For example, as I was leaving the military exhibit, I noticed that Civil War information was mixed with the World War 2. Even so, the employee at the museum that he is redesigning to make all the exhibits more organized, which I hope that he does.The gift shop is very tiny and didn't have anything worth purchasing. I wouldn't recommend buying anything from the gift shop because of how bland every item is. I wanted to buy a shirt for my children, but the gift shop didn't have the correct size. This is a pity because I wanted to really support the museum as much that I could. For any museums, gift shops are the life blood for them to survive. This museum needs to improve its gift shop.The museum costs no money to visit. It does take donations, which I recommend everyone who visit to donate. The city and its people need to support this museum more because it has so much to offer! The potential is there...

Housed now in the historic Lindemann Building in downtown Wichita Falls, the Museum of North Texas History has come a long way from humble beginnings. The museum is some 14 exhibit halls plus the Wichita County archives chronicling the establishment, development and growth of the region for the past 100+ years. Admission is free (donations appreciated), guides are available or visitors may explore and discover on their own. The Museum of North Texas History is an amazing maze of the way we were.

What a hidden gem this little museum is. So much history packed into it. It's misleading when you walk in thinking it's a small place. There are actually 14 rooms full of displays and photos and historical information. Examples: Huge collection of cowboy hats, 20's, Boomtown and oil display, medical, WW1, WW2, native american and more. Definitely could improve or add to a couple of the collections, such as women's textiles and the Native American display. However, what was there was interesting. The County Archives library is also located there and has a collection of records and stories of the area. Free entry and free parking.
