Other than the iconic song not much other than taking some "standing on the corner" pic's to talk about in Winslow.
A standing on the corner sign, a hologram of the girl in the flat bed Ford, a real flat bed Ford parked on the street--what more could you want? Have breakfast at Dar's Diner across the street--looks like a relic from the Route 66 days--and watch the other tourists taking pictures of themselves standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona, and such a fine sight to see...
Judging by some of the negative reviews seems a lot of people expect a Taj Mahal and Glen Frey to run up with a cup of coffee and a doughnut for them I guess, I was very pleased, this is my second visit. The friendly ladies in the memorabilia shop could not be nicer, what sweeties. A good selection of souvenirs and area artwork. The brickwork and statue are in excellent condition, the area is clean. They even have the authentic flatbed Ford there now. This is certainly the heartbeat of Winslow, I am not sure there would still be a Winslow without it. And it is free.
This is just a tiny park in a poor section of town. It offers nothing. I love the song, but I like it somewhat less after viewing this dismal park,
Popped in town when heading back from the Petrified Forest. Cute set up with lots of detail. Late in the day so most stores were closed at the brightly painted intersection. Grew up with the song and just HAD to pull off the Interstate when we were so close. Laughed and took plenty of photos. The town itself looks like it has seen better days and I don't plan to ever return. We had a great time for about 15 minutes because we were already there - would not recommend going majorly out of your way for it.
We were staying overnight in Winslow on our way to Vegas so we decided to take advantage of this iconic location made famous by the Eagles song (Standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona oh what a sight to see...a girl my lord in a flat bed ford slowing down to check out me)..they have a full size statue of an artist with a guitar with a backdrop of the girl in the ford and Winslow on the wall. Highway 66 logo is on the street. I would not go far out of my way to see this but if you are here, worth the picture opportunity
That song went through my head for days. Wouldn't want to miss the stop. No great urge to do it again. I stopped there late. Town closes up pretty early. So mostly a drive thru.
A small park in downtown Winslow. Created to respond to the demand from tourists who identified with the song. A simply, life size statue of a guitar playing singer and a mural of the 'girl in a flatbed Ford'. A place for visitors to take a picture.
Some people might call it a tourist trap. I say it is what it is and it is very good at it. Route 66, Eagles music, flatbed truck, statue, great murals all come together and make a very nice place to stop and TAKE IT EASY!
We stopped to see the statue and salute to the Eagles' song, The statue was really good, the little town of Winslow was interesting. There were people from all over the world there taking pictures with the statue. Beautiful area and many things to see along the way. This is part of the old Route 66.
