The Dattatreya Temple and Hanuman Statue is easily the best architectural site in Trinidad and Tobago. The temple is unmatched in its detail to architecture on the island and the feel of the place brings home a beautiful sense of peace.
This temple was constructed by artisans brought in from India. It is well worth a visit to admire the intricate architectural details of the main temple, learn about Trinidad Hinduism, and see the 85-foot statue of the monkey deity, Hanuman. There are giant elephant statues that guard the temple doors. This is a religious site, so appropriate clothing is required (no shorts), and shoes must be left outside the temple door. It's fine to take pictures of the statue and the temple exterior and grounds, but permission is required to take pictures inside, as it's an active place of worship. The temple is half an hour from Port of Spain; take Churchill Roosevelt Highway east to Uriah Butler south; turn right until the Chase Village flyover (overpass); follow the signs south to Waterloo; then follow signs to the temple.
Lovely settingBeautiful building and statue a real surpriseWe just popped in for a few moments on our way back to port of Spain after a full day out - worth the stopYou do need to take off your shoes to go inside - worth it
these are 2 intresting places of worship to visit, the drive to and from is breathtaking through villages.there could be long funeral processions here so be aware and avoid the traffic
