A super place to take the kids and walk or it's miles of trails. With wide paths and scenic views it make it one of our favorites.
If you want to take a trip to see a river, you need a hobby. It's wet. It's big, and in 2008 it was angry and gave half the city a deep bath.Don't eat any fish from it. Also don't swim in it. People go missing in it every year.
There are great trails along the river in Cedar Rapids. Beautiful nature and views. Great for hiking and biking, you can stop to fish at any point.
I like the fireworks displays around the 4th of July. Both the downtown and the Ellis displays are great. The programs at the amphitheater are great also. It is also a peaceful place to hike or walk the dog. I live 4 blocks away.
I really like walking by the Cedar River trails! It's a nice river and it's the heart of Cedar Rapids. I would like to see the City maybe think about a floodable river walk-way like the one they have in Grand Rapids, MI and other places. It would be nice to walk on the banks of the Cedar River.
The Cedar river is a pretty river. Looking at it at night on the west side of the city , Looking towards Quaker Oaks is beautiful. Great for fishing and boating. The 4th of July Ellis Harbor is lit up and makes the river look magical.
I can't seriously believe there is a place to review the Cedar River. I drive over it every day getting to work. If I have my window down, it smells. When I park my car and have to walk to my office, it smells. The only thing that wants to be close to the river is the geese, and they leave their marks. They had to put spikes on our metal tree art to keep the pigeons off. Seriously, if you need to see the Cedar River at any point through it's course through Iowa, you need a vacation. It smells. It's dirty. Don't swim in it because the low head dams are dangerous. Don't eat the fish from it. There is no river walk, this isn't San Antonio.
I would have liked to seen it when it was pristine, but still a nice river. In CR a nice place to river watch is Ellis Park. The boat houses are interesting, and you can watch people playing on the river. People enjoy the river all up and down it's run. It would be beautiful to cruise but the dam at CR shortens your run. Because it has been filled by erosion, people don't enjoy it when it floods.
It's a river. There's fishing. There's boating. There's .....whatever else you do with a river..... I live nearby so I think it's great but if you want me to compare it to the Seine....well there is no comparison.
It's home. On the river daily. Whether ice fishing, washing animals, or watching the water...the Cedar River is my place. It changes as the seasons do and makes me smile all year around. Something to see constantly, and never has the same scenery twice.
