I like coming here on Thursday nights, it's pretty much the place to go in town. Good music and drinks
The Neon Cactus is a popular college-aged dance club with a piano 'lounge.' On Thursday nights, the busiest night, the drinks are cheap and the place is crowded. You will find many types of people: Jersey Shorers, fratrority types, wallflowers, and sadly, more loose girls and hungry guys than spring break at panama city...The problem I have with this place is the staff. They often come across as arogant; the whole place comes across as arogant, not my type, but maybe yours. I know they have a tough job but their attitude can make Thursday night just plain unpleasant.Pros: cheap drinks, plenty of people dancing, and an entertaining albeit cocky piano barCons: may wait 10 minutes for a drink, unrelaxed environment, and self-serving staff
Piano bar is the main reason to go. There is also a big dance area, and about 3-6 pool tables. $5 to get in and they have the lowest prices on drinks in town.
I've been at the Cactus many times and always on Thursdays, as most students go there. The piano bar by Bruce is very cool even if you're an European that doesn't know anything about country music, and at about midnight most people move to the dance floor area. During the summer the place is a hit or miss, while during the semester is busier - however, I've never had a boring night at Cactus, most were lots of fun. Cover is 5 bucks, and on some days (like July 4th) they ask you for a second ID. There are a few bars inside, and depending on how packed the place is it may take from a few minutes to 15 to get a drink. However, the drinks are quite poor since they're very cheap (order Patron!). The fancy thing about the Cactus is their mug, you can get one for 2.50$ and have it refilled with a cocktail (that's the way you should order drinks there!). Don't expect the Cactus to be a club like in Chicago or NYC, it's a college bar & club where you'll enjoy a crowd of drunk students and loud music. It's fun!
The picture is not the Neon Cactus. The piano bar is the reason to come here. Bruce Barker is amazing. The place is very big but it looks like it is almost empty. Everyone is in the Piano Bar Room. Howell at the Moon is a joke. I bring friends from Indianapolis and they are amazed about how much fun they have. There is a $5 cover, but well drinks are under $3 with tip. Can't beat that. Highly recommended.
The neon cactus is for little wannabe clubbers. It is sooooo childiah and lame...want a real club then head out to Cali or NY. Where the people are mature for a change............
Listen up peeps, if you don't like loud club music and dancing this ain't your joint. However! If you do, you'll love this place! I went with a big group of people and we had a BLAST! I never had to wait for a drink that long, 5-7 minutes tops and that place was PACKED!
I had amazing night I been going out their since past 3 years most of time same problem I see their. wait wait wait for your drink., last night I waited 30 mint for my drink. First bartender I had was so rude he refused me to serve causw after 30 mint wait I told him to give me drink. feel like its non- profit organization. I understand it was busy night n all but overall it's about services n money. hope that mangment fix this problem .
The first couple times I went to the Cactus it was exciting, but it's the same thing every time...the music is a hit or miss but most of the time it's the same thing, every week! I usually never wait too long I get a drink, but then again tips are a nice way to make sure you do to wait too long. It's a spacious place but Thursdays tend to get over crowded. All in all it's fun for the first few times but it gets old fast.
